Have to watch for those bitty babies when you walk. Are your dogs cool with them?

I take them out on a leash now, the one time I didn't they happened to go out as the quail family was moving through the yard and scattered them all.
The chicks are extremely fast and scurrying under shrubs and plants so no worries about where I step.

yep, providing lots of plants and nectar. Just wish the gophers would move out.

I have learned to make use of the gophers. At this point they aren't destroying anything. I know I can't fight them on 6 ac. so i had to learn to live with them. The mounds they make are helping me to establish wildflowers.

Not destroying anything? You sure you have gophers? That eat plants, roots, love my iris, tunnel underneath everything. Even come out to eat the stalks. I have to cage all roses and bulbs or they are history.

Well they are probably eating the pecan tree roots but I don't see it. They also do their thing out in the open spaces where there are no trees at all. What are they eating there I wonder? Weed roots?
So far (fingers crossed) they aren't right around the house where the things I garden are.

I was once watching a lily bulb, that I had forgotten to cage, shake and slowly sink down and disappear, just like a cartoon!
