LL was just planted last month. All but one new TB planting are doing well. I have two little newly planted SDB's that show signs of soft rot. sigh

Bonnie, I just read an article in an old AIS bulletin concerning "soft rot". Without going into all the 'technical jargon", this writers findings were...now don't laugh !......to add two, un buffered asprin tablets to 1 gallon of water, and drench the soil . I haven't tried it, but I intend to, the next time some shows up !

I drenched it, Arlyn and I cant see any difference!!! .... I know, I have to wait.... for quite a while. Just thought I would have a junior moment and the fact that the two losses are the ones I lusted after the most is making me feel like having a major junior moment. Now Break Yolk is looking iffy. sigh This cant hurt and if it helps I will be very happy.

Good ! we have an experiment going !! I think the concept relies on the iris plant reacting to the acid in the aspirin by kicking it's immune system into "overdrive". I'll look up the issue, and post it. Anyone who's an "on line" AIS member can access it. And the "this can't hurt" thing was discussed in the article as well....being a totally non-toxic "prevention"

Crying yes it is/was. My Edge Of The World has no leaves left. The rhizome is fine and the roots are strong. Guess I will see if it will survive. I was so excited to get this one. Dang!

Sad Crying Crying
My Grace Upon Grace is gone gone gone. The fans fell over today and the rhizome was mush. I had it in the ground all of 7 days!!!! Can you ask for a replacement from the vendor in this case or just mourn the loss? I really really wanted this one. Sighing!

Leslie I would take a picture and send it to the vendor. Also take pictures of anything else in the ground around it.

I had a few more bite the dust too. I had/have more than one of these potted up, so they aren't being added to my lost list.

I had one newly planted one rot away - "oh jamaica". Not sure why, unless it already had some rot started in it. Early spring seems to be my most rot prone time. Something I have done when the weather is over wet is to dig up a clump and just let it sit on top of the ground.

I've never had a newly planted one just rot right after planting. I've had some that just didn't take and dried up. It never hurts to let the vendor know what happened. Many of them will replace them either this year or next.
Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason.

Thanks all. I have the rotted fan leaves and it's tag. What is left of the squishy rhizome has fallen to the bottom of the yard card.

Just odd to have one give up the ghost so quicky. All the neighboring iris are fine.

Leslie, I just planted Edge of the World last season and it has 3 increases, so check with me next year for a piece. Same goes with Merchant Marine Greg. Lynn, Chasing Rainbows is new this year and in a pot. So either next year, or most likely the following year, I'll have a piece to send you. Bonnie, a generous member here recently sent me a piece of Lady Leigh and I already have it planted. It's yours if you want it...

It's really sad when you lose any but especially the ones you like/wanted the most. Sad
