This time of year, and the winter to come, we'll all have to sit around the fire
and tell each other stories!
Oh God! That usually requires a bit more light deprivation. Maybe by February! But I see story titles floating around in my head, like "Awesome Alex and the Great Balls Of Fire"

Just did a quick round in the iris beds. Not doing much as I am not feeling good. But on the rounds, I notices one that has not been doing well. Its splashcata. The rhizome was complete mush. When I received it from s friend, I soaked for a few minutes and it had some mushy parts on it and I got rid of it all and that was 5 weeks ago. It was doing ok up till about a week or so ago.
Thanks Mary Ann, I should be back up to normal in a few more days. I know there is no rhyme or reason sometimes. It was not on my most favorite list luckily, I will keep the spot open for something else down the road.
I have a different problem-no mush, no dry up, just sitting there. Rhizomes of several are firm, but there are no signs of new growth despite being in the ground for over a month. Just hoping they will have rooted in enough to survive the winter freeze-thaw cycles here and will surprise me with nice growth next spring.
The mushy ones and dried up ones have been removed with the soil left open to get air/sun and hopefully be "clean" next spring for a new one in each of their places.
I had that happen a couple years ago with Dialect. I though for sure they were dead, but come spring they took off and bloomed! Think they did all their growing underground.

If they are firm.......I'd just wait them out. I've had some stay that way.....sort of in 'suspended growth' , all winter, and ,in the spring, they took off right away .
