They are not. The Ags & the Pep already had roots, and the Begonia rhizome. Once I got those situated, I added the other stuff, as cuts.

I am feeling a little lazy about starting the pots this year.

Yes, in the past. I only ever buy 1 of anything that can be propagated. You should hardly call yourself lazy when it was still frigid until so recently where you are. Gotta go with whatever the weather says, then do what feels like fun. That's another thing I love about plants. There are no requirements except the ones I make, and I change them often.

I'm going to feel like that this summer if there is drought again for a 3rd year in a row. It's so dry already with not much chance of rain in the foreseeable forecast.

It's hard to believe that these are the same plants that were being blown sideways last weekend in gusts up to 45 mph. Surprisingly, I can't find any damage. (...but if any parts were trimmed by mother nature, they were blown out to sea! LOL!) Also so pleasantly surprised by how much of a positive difference the unglazed clay pots can make. No more new plastic pots for me.

No more plastic pots because they didn't blow away???

The extra weight does help with that but it's more about how much more happy the roots must be, compared to the same plants' previous performance in plastic. Some of these look better & are growing faster than when they were in the ground in previous years for summer vacation.

Well, I am going to just jump in here.............I have ginormous plants in ginormous pots and hanging baskets and for the most part it is just the one plant (or in the case of the hanging plants, more than one of the same kind). However, after seeing the simply gorgeous huge pots of companion plantings at The Ark Encounter in Kentucky, I knew I just had to try it. I couldn't find a pot as large as what they had there........actually, I was able to find the pot, it's just the almost $200 in freight to GET it here went against my grain. LOL So the best I could do was a 36 inch (I think) and this is what I planted in it. We've not had the best growing weather till a week or so ago, but I'll update pix as the stuff grows.

Contains 1 alocasia (I had that plant already), 1 orange hibiscus, 1 King Tut papyrus, 2 purple coleus, 2 orange begonia, 2 purple and 1 chartruese sweet potato vines, and there is an ivy of some description in the back that you can't see.

Anna, it's very pretty. Is it all filled with soil? About half a bale there?

Yes, it's filled with soil. I didn't even have to mix any up, I had pots with no plants that still had potting medium in them, so just dumped it all in the big one.

Repotted this 2-3 weeks ago & already it looks so much more happy.


These pots are enjoying hanging under this tree.


Schlumbergera truncata & Plectranthus verticillatus.


Schefflera & Coleus with succulents coming out of the drain holes. The blooms are Portulaca umbraticola.
