Thread OP

My husbands grandmother gave me this Day Lily from her garden before she passed. Any idea as to it's name?? It's a larger Day lily, with the flower stalk at least 3 ft high.

Sorry, it's not distinctive enough to nail down an ID. There are over 79,000 registered daylilies and thousands of yellow ones. Someone may give a few guesses but unless you grow a suspected ID side by side with yours, you will never know for sure.

Sue is right. It is very difficult to ID with all the thousands of daylilies out there.

I immediately thought of Mary's Gold, which was registered in 1984. Even though your picture is a lighter shade, that could just be the camera settings. MG in my garden looks more orange in person, but please check the database and you will see that there is a big range of yellow/orange shades of MG:
Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Mary's Gold')

I have Mary's Gold and it definitely gets around 36" tall and the blooms are 6.5", so your description is right in that area. The branching on the scapes of MG is not the greatest, I would classify it as top branched. And the blooms are very easy to snap off, more so than a lot of other daylily blooms. Here is a picture of it from my garden a few years ago:

ungreenthumb,
Welcome
Well, I don't know the name, but I sure think it is growing in my garden...and just about everyones.
Well, at least something that looks like it, guess that is the problem, just to many look alikes. Anyhow, without a name it is still a beautiful daylily and welcome to stay in my garden, right now it is one of the few actually blooming in my garden.
