Mine is flopping really bad right now, but honestly it is so hot, I don't care!

Well, I just cut the whole clump down to the ground. It cleaned up the area nicely, although it left a fairly big hole in the bed. Fortunately I do have a gazing ball on a stand where the spiderwort was so it isn't totally bereft looking. I'll see how that works this year.

This stuff is impossible to get rid of. The roots are like spaghetti and spread out very far away from the crown of the plant. The spots where i tolerate it are very nice until leaves turns brown and yellow sometime in early summer. I cut it way down and it doesn't take long for it to come back.

Do you then get a second bloom, or does it just grow new leaves? As noted, for me it is not a garden thug and I like it in bloom - just trying to figure out best way to clean it up mid-summer to not leave a gaping hole. Maybe I need to re-think what is planted directly next to it or in front of it and adjust those to help cover the spent spiderwort.

Looked at the garden today and babies everywhere so know I have a day of digging up again.
Deb when I used to cut down after first round of flowering I did have some re-flowering.

I've had my sweet kate now for 5 years, with no issues, it does not spread out or go everywhere at all. I honestly have not did anything to take care of it other than occasional water in very hottest part of summer. Nothing else.

The flowers are sterile on Sweet Kate so it does not go crazy like some of the others.
