This plant has popped up and grows fast. I'm hoping it will have flowers, but I have no idea what it is.

I'm almost afraid to tell you. If my eyes are seeing this correctly, it is a Chinese Tallow Tree/Triadica sebifera; extremely invasive. It will crowd out native species.

You have not yet filled in your information to show us where you live/location/climate zone., but wherever you live, this tree is bad news.
Not only will it create tons of viable seeds but the roots are powerfully strong and can travel long distances under concrete sidewalks and house slabs.

Some people who keep honeybees actually plant this tree because they care more about making honey than they do about the environment.
Please be responsible and destroy it.

I've found a few seedlings over the years and last week spotted one sprouting in a flower bed in my yard and one popping up in a container.

LOL Jolana, I only drink one to two cups of coffee every morning but I can't imagine giving it up.

It's been 4 days and I have put the milk in the microwave but sent dh out for milk thinking we were out. There is more but embarrassing
LOL Maybe I will just have a cup every morning. The doctor said that is why I can't sleep, hasn't made a lick of difference

Yeah, too much caffeine (especially late day or at night) can definitely cause sleeplessness. I only drink one to 2 cups of coffee every morning but I'm sometimes really bad about drinking Iced Tea and Diet Coke all day long and end up with caffeine over-load! I have to force myself to cut back on the caffeine and sometimes make myself drink 2 bottles of water for each glass of tea or diet cola ... which is very hard.

@plantladylin and @greene thanks for the info - I will cut it down tomorrow morning. I'm in Wilmington, NC - sorry I haven't gotten around to filling in all my info - will get to it soon.

elizb, I found another one sprouting alongside my house when I was mowing the lawn today and I need to yank it as well. They sure are pretty trees it's a shame they are so invasive!

This is not the best photo in the world. You can see the trunk of the 'Popcorn Tree' which I cut down. Look at the two lateral roots; the one on the left grew under the concrete patio; the lateral root on the right was heading off to anywhere it could. This is a determined tree. After cutting the main trunk I had to sever the lateral roots and cover the cuts with dark plastic to omit all light and all rain water to prevent the tree re-growing.


Edited to add: The diameter of the lateral roots is about 3 inches, nearly as large as the main trunk.

Yep, they can sure cause some major issues if left to grow at their own will! We also have problems in central and southern Fla. with Umbrella Tree (Heptapleurum actinophyllum) as well as Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica) and a few others too. The roots can crack and damage sidewalks and house foundations!
