I just did my first blog entry, and tried to post a picture. It shows on the right-hand side of the screen, but nowhere in the blog.

Also, what does "Permalink" refer to?

When you upload it and it appears on the right-side in the upload area, you then have to click on it and drag it into the body of the article.

I got the picture on the page, but all my text appears as one long block. It's not wrapping around the picture, and I'm not getting any paragraph breaks.

NEED A LITTLE HELP...

When you are in your blog control panel, do you see the little tree across the top in the tool panel? That little tree is your photo icon and if you click on it, it allows you to place your photo within the text. You'll get a drop down box and click on Alignment then you'll see where you can place your photo to the right, middle or left. Once that's done, the text will wrap around.
See if that works.

Sorry, I was at work....Here's a screenshot. Click on the photo you want to wrap the test around. Then click on the tree I put the arrow beside. A box will pop-up...click on the "appearance" tab, then click on "alignment" and a dropdown box will appear, and set where you want the photo, left, right, etc. Then click on "update" at the bottom of the pop-up box. The text will wrap after you do this.
