This made me laugh, Bonnie ! My dad ran a "Salvage Yard" as his occupation.....he was the "Junk Man" , and my mom would go down to the "yard", walk around, and point at things, saying, 'Hans ! I want that at home !", "Hans ! drop that off at home !", or something similar. Dad would shake his head and say, "if it's rusty...it's just junk !, But, paint it white and put it in the front yard, and then it's "art' !" We had LOTS of "art" at our house, and when they 'retired', and moved to Arkansas....it ALL had to go with them! AND, when they "moved back home", 29 years later......you guessed it ! I made three trips with the truck and trailer, ....hauling "art"!

I love that, Arlyn! My favorite jaunt is to the scrap metal yard. I have three garden buddies and we are like kids in a candy store. The owner assigns a worker to follow us around and keep us from getting hurt. We make him work for it.

I join in with those of you who like rusty things. One of my neighbors had a large collection of antique wagons and farm equipment. He passed away and his family is liquidating his treasures. I've bought some things and his daughter have given me some. Do they have a purpose? Probably not but I love looking at them and rearranging the pieces.........

I LOVE your rusty stuff!!! Paul. I like having old farm implements and sometimes I get something and have no idea what I will do with it. I let it live here and there until it just seems to look and feel right in its place.

I love rusty things too... I've also had my eye on some kinetic sculptures like Debra posted as well... I'd never shy away from any of Jan's work.. I have a lot of art in the garden and quite a few dragonfly related things... but what I'd like to add would be a pond. I've been thinking about putting one in on the upper lawn.. and now that it's almost dead, I'm envisioning a killer perennial border against the retaining wall as well. I've got a guy here right now building a little stone wall. If he does ok, I'll put him to work on more... So far so good. We just came back from the quarry as we'd used up what I had on site (that was easy to get to anyway).

I like lots of birdhouses. And of course moving water of some kind, and preferably with goldfish in it. Lots of places to sit are nice too. I have a bench by my front door and a bench under a shade tree in the back. I plan to add a bench next to the pond I am putting in. I love rocks, the more the better and I like little trinkets, like crystals, fossils, colored glass, marbles, sea shells, ect.

Definitely need places to sit. We put in 2 new benches this year.

I would love to divert some of the creek as a water feature, but as much to create a haven for my Japanese and Louisiana iris as to make an actual water feature. I fear though that it would attract copperheads....

I would love a large metal compass in my garden. Something artistic, possibly functional too.

I added some bright spheres and containers and a bird bath....
