It's great that you've started so young. I was young when I began to develop an interest in plants. I'm self-educated when it comes to gardening but learned a lot from my mother and from being on my grandparents' farm.

I lived in CA for 40 years. Do you mind if I ask you where you are?
I garden for the pollinators.

We'll know when she updates her Profile, but not if she only enters her USDA zone.

Hi there!

Just became a member of allthingsplants! I recently welcomed two new house plants into my home and have been obsessed with them! (=

*See photos attached! One is a beautiful pothos and the other a strong split-leaf philodendron.

Hello everyone! I am new to plant forums. Used to be an Admin on a bird forum but had to downsize my internet usage with our move to Ohio (from NJ). I am working on filling my bedroom with houseplants so am doing research on what plants best suit a west window with strong afternoon sun. At the moment I have two big plant stands (will be getting another) and can regulate the light to accommodate various plants, so far: one Phal orchid, philodendrons and pothos, snake plant, croton (Lauren's Rainbow), Dracaena 'Florida Beauty' Plant, succulents (actually leaf cuttings waiting to sprout), a moon cactus and 16 tillandsias. I also have a collection of bottle plants that will grow in water (English ivy, creeping fig, wondering jew, philodendron, prayer plant, and an arrowhead plant.

My big question is can my succulent leaf cuttings be grown as houseplants. I took cuttings from my dil's plants.

Welcome! @GrannyMarie. Succulents can easily be grown inside. They just need bright light to do well. Early morning sun or very late afternoon sun would be great. You can mimic a lot with good artificial lighting though. You already know their potting media, water, and fertilizer needs, so it looks like you are well on your way to growing a lot of really neat plants.

Welcome! You'll soon have a beautiful jungle in your bedroom! All of the succulents will make lovely pot plants with time.

I got a small crassula about 4 months ago. It is the Campfire one that turns red. One 2 inch pot came, and now I have probably 3 square feet of it in my greenhouse. Most grow very quickly with the proper light and water.

Granny--- Welcome to our World!

From your list of plants for bright sunny locations Philodendrons and Pothos may not like it.
They would like a somewhat lower-light location. That just means NO direct PM sun.
A bright, even light would br great.
Of course--there are many cultivars. The most common one is the ones you see in all
stores-the Pothos, Hanging Basket (HB) types..eg 'golden"--Marble Queen"
"satin" etc..I don't think they like direct sun at all.
There are some dracenas that like good light--not familiar with them all.
E. or N. exposure but not full sun will do for most plants.

I am NOT into succulents--but I know even a small section or "leaf"
will, in time, grow a whole new plant. eg-Jade plants, Hindu rope, Burrows Tail, etc.

Good luck! keep us informed. Gita

Howdy folks. After 20 plus years of no house plants (I raise Bengal cats) I decided it was time to find something that wouldn't hurt a nibbling kitten. I see Spider plants, hare's foot fern and air plants are animal safe. I'm still researching tender succulents.

I'm lucky to have friends that have given me a LOT of starts. I have a bunch of baby spiders growing and the hare's foot and rabbit's foot rhizomes are showing signs of life. A pair of kittens stole a Tillandsias and used it as a cat toy for a few hours. After a overnight soak it recovered fairly well, lost a few lower leaves but appears to be growing.

I hope to have some plants hanging inside by the end of summer and well post pic's.

My goodness, Gita, you do have a beautiful jungle there. You need yourself a greenhouse or a solarium. Whistling
