We have been doing the Daylily of the Day for a couple of weeks now and in my opinion it has been very successful THANKS to all of you who took the time to post your performance reviews of the different cultivars!

Please be aware that you can post to all those threads old and new at any time to update or add your evaluations of any of those cultivars! You can add on the day the cultivar is featured, days later, weeks later, months, years, etc. At any time. The more info from around the world on each cultivar, the better!

Since we are adding a cultivar a day, Dave has created another forum to hold all but the newest threads. He will automatically archive each cultivar thread after it has run for 7 days. That way we are not clogging up the main Daylily forum with Daylily of the Day threads. If you would like to know when someone adds to any of those cultivar threads, click on the "Daylilies of the Day Archive" (in blue) to your right and choose to "watch" that forum.

Again, thank you to everyone who has taken the time to participate. And for those who haven't done so yet .... we will continue to feature a different cultivar every day. I will be awarding an acorn for each person's performance evaluation. If you update with a new post with more information next year, I will award another acorn to you. Another easy way to earn acorns!

If you are able to, please add info such as bud count, branching, scape height, how long it blooms (when the plant started blooming and when it stopped blooming), if it reblooms and how long after the initial blooms, etc. Any information that would be helpful to others who may be considering that cultivar for their garden.

The whole purpose of doing these Daylily of the Day threads is to help gardeners decide which cultivars would not only grow well in their zone, but also how it performs overall. Some cultivars take longer to settle into their new homes, while others don't seem to be fazed by transplanting, etc. So all this information will benefit everyone who loves daylilies!

And photos posted on those threads are certainly welcome, too! Thumbs up

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! to Dave for all the work he put into creating this new feature for us and to everyone participating to make it a success!

You CAN still post to each cultivar thread after it has been moved to the archive forum. Nothing changes except it's location. And those "watching" that forum will know when a new post has been added to any of the cultivar threads. Smiling

Edited to add: I am wrong about that .... to know when a new post has been added to a particular cultivar thread, you will have to "watch" that cultivar thread. "Watching" the Daylilies of the Day Archive Forum, only lists it on your home page.

Could someone give me a thumbs up "in" the new post I added to one of the Daylily of the Day threads. I want to make sure that it is being seen regardless of where it resides.

This new feature is the result of just one part of the discussion on this thread:
The thread "Bud and Branch Update Day!" in Daylilies forum

We really need members (hopefully next year for sure!) to "File a local report" which is located near the very bottom of the page of each cultivar in the Plant Database and to also post new or additional posts to any of the "Daylily of the Day" cultivar threads here that have already been created. I know we started the cultivar of the day feature late in the season after most members no longer have blooms or even scapes. But many of you posted anyway with reports of how the plant did overall for you this season and in past seasons.

That is helpful information! I have recently seen a post or two from a member(s) who read your info and decided that a particular cultivar was just what they needed or one that they should pass on. So these cultivar threads have already been helpful to some members. Thank you for your honest personal evaluations of each cultivar!

Many folks order daylilies over the Winter months for Spring delivery, so these threads will be read again over the Winter months. Please continue to support and add to the Daylily of the Day threads if you have (or had) any of the cultivars featured. Your performance reports are valuable to more members than you are even aware of. We have a lot of lurkers that come to the Daylily Forum regularly, but haven't posted yet. (Hopefully, they will in the future! Thumbs up ) So what you post is valued and read by many! Thank You! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

I just realized that if you want to "watch" the threads of all (or certain cultivars) in the Daylilies of the Day Archive forum, you will have to go into each cultivar thread and click on "watch" at the top of the thread, to see the thread come up on YOUR ATP front page when a new post is added. Just giving those who are unaware of this feature, a heads up!

Thank you, Mayo! A labor of love for my obsession with hybridizing daylilies is my motivation. Dave always seems willing to improve ATP if it helps numerous gardeners. Thank You! Thumbs up
