Thank you both! I wish I have the time to grow all the varieties that you grow. Maybe when I retire.

Hi,
I am new to the forum, looking for advice on my vanda which I have had for nearly ten years. Its flowers late each summer and had lived in a large glass vase until I broke it. I wondered if it was time to try and split it into a number of plants or whether it is best to leave well alone. It us about 120cm tall with 30cm root ball.Any advice would be appreciated as my knowledge on Vandas is zero. I live in Suffolk in the east of England. Thanks John

Hi John, welcome to our forum!
I do not grow many vanda plants , but my understanding is that what you are proposing should be done before July. We may have culture sheets from the American Orchid Society in the pinned posts at the top of our thread.
I would say however, that your knowledge of vandas CAN'T be zero...keeping one for 10 years and having it look so fabulous is quite an accomplishment.
Well done!
There are others here with much more experience and I'm sure they will chime in.

Hi John, welcome!
Your Vanda looks about as great as anyone in a tropical climate could manage!! It doesn't get much better! Thumbs up
I see healthy roots also higher up on that plant! Great! It flowers once a year for you, so it must receive sufficient light where you keep it.
Now if that were me, I would place the plant as is in a large, slatted wooden basket and hang it up, watering the plant daily, fertilizing as you did before. If those roots were much submersed in that glass vase, they will surely need much water while getting used to air movement.
I used to keep a large Vanda in the house over the Winter and in Summer outside. Now during the indooor season, I took the plant daily over the bath tub, flooded it, let it drip off and placed it back on its hook in a South facing, sunny window, towel underneath to catch last drips... Smiling (When I couldn't move that plant through the bathroom door any longer, we had a discussion about getting a greenhouse! Smiling )
