Wouldn't it be nice if we all lived closer?!
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?

We could take turns having garden tour picnics. It would be so great to see all of your gardens.

I've gotten interested in orchids over the last 3 months. All I need is another addiction.

Oh, my, yes. Gorgeous. I was just talking to Boojum about trying some. Something to keep me occupied in winter. She said to start with a phalaenopisis.

How many do you have Susan?

Have you been over to the Orchids Cubit? It's pretty amazing what Kathy has done over there.

Yeah, I'd say orchids are really nice, especially the ones that bloom in the winter. I have had phals that bloomed for 6 months straight. Now that, I can live with!

I'm a frequent flyer at the orchid forum. I'm still in the learning stage and need a lot of reassurance that I'm doing OK. It's nice to have such kind experts to learn from. I started with a phal from Walmart and took it to work. The fact that it bloomed there for over 8 weeks in very poor conditions convinced me that maybe orchids were worthwhile. One orchid Kathy talked me into getting was Dendribium Nora Takunaga. It came with one bloom open and 3 buds. About 3 months later those 4 flowers look like they just opened. I have about 45 now. That's about all the room I have too, so need to stop.

Here's a shot of Nora taken 4/12.

And here on the far left you can see those same flowers taken yesterday, looking good as new. Of course the challenge is to see how many of the orchids will be alive a year from now and how many I can get to rebloom. So far I've been buying most of the in spike, in sheath or with buds, so I can't take much credit for the blooms.

Everything is huge there. It was a row of 20 year old Junipers when we moved in 2007.I had them ripped out and the stumps removed, rototilled composted topsoil in and the rest is history.this is 2008 and 2009
