Another from the same mix. Growing lilies from seed is some of the most amazing work you could do with plants. Imagine: there's nothing like what you have in the whole wide world. And what a treat it is to have your first blossom open up.

Hmmm, David Sims' site hasn't sold seed for about 3 years. Says he would start up in Fall 2008, but there is no update. Any clues?

I don't have a clue. In my opinion he should take his site down and quit teasing us.

I think the seed I got was from that last year he sold seed. Every now and again I wonder over there and see if there is any change, but nothing.

Sims seemed to have good taste when crossing things. The only one to bloom that color was that one, the rest yellow and spotted.

I am hoping you two help me fill out this thread with your seedlings...pretty please? I think this stuff is some of the most fun there is with lilies.

Pard, I really like the yellow one there. Nice form. Now I am hoping you sport some of your other beautiful seedlings, like the S's And Andy, I know you've got some nice ones too.

Your lilies are so special pard. You do such a nice job. It's a good thing you don't have a catalog or I'd go broke. Are those S's 4n?

S-2 of course is a 4n OT. I'm not sure about the other two; some of the packets I got from Sims were 2n trumpets. I'll pay more attention this year and get all of my unknown trumpets figured out by testing with different pollens. It's possible that my only 4n seedlings are S-2 and S-10.

I love that S-2. Yes, Pard, why don't you sell some of your crosses?

And please Pard, would you explain for the people that don't understand ploidy, what you are talking about with the 2n and 4n? In fact, if you have the chance, maybe you could do a thread explaining ploidy in lilies.

One question I would have is are there tetraploids in all the varieties of lilies now? And do they really make a difference in all the varieties.. For example, in my iris world, tetraploids of siberians are normally much more vigorous, but Japanese are only slightly so. And of course most of the TB irises are tetraploid, but the MTB still are mostly diploid. I would love a little similar knowledge about the lilies. And is 2n=24 the norm for all lilies, or does it vary?

Love the first and last ones and the Asiatic from cascade. How exciting to see something totally new. Wish I had the room to do lots of hybridizing with lilies,dayliles and Iris.

Just got through reading the NALS Bulletin and I'd say if Dick Bazett can do it on a city lot, this is very encouraging to all of us! He's the hybridizer of one of my favorites, 'Pink Jazz'.
