Boy, the masses are restless! LOL
This is the first time I have used either of them. I've had Soiree for a while, but last year, I don't know why, but they didn't do so well. I wondered if one group had a symptomless virus. But they're back in full force now. Olina I got recently from our MN chapter Lily society, and this is the first year for bloom.
I really only started hybridizing year before last, so my first blooms will be this season with some aurelians. (I don't start things indoors under lights.) But I do have some (hopefully) interesting crosses coming down the line.
I grew
Lilium szovitsianum from seed back in 2003 and this has been the third year of bloom. But I only have one and it is self infertile and never sets seed. It's always the first lily to bloom for me. On a whim I dabbed some martagon pollen on its last flowers, and I have pods!!! I am very excited about the prospects. The two lilies are so different looking. The pic below is
Lilium szovitsianum. And szovitsianum has foliage different from any lily I have seen. I remember the first spring I had it planted out in the garden: I wondered if it it was a weed!
Other ones of special interest to me is
L.m. 'Amelita' x
L. 'Super Tsing', 'Ilga' x 'Stellar Light' (seed not mine),
L. lancifolium var.
flaviflorum x L. 'Kentucky', L. 'Madam Butterfly' x one of Pards seedlings, 'Sweet Surrender' x Dots and Dashs' and 'White Henryi' x 'Red Dutch'.
Today a first seed sprouted of
Lilium leichtlinii from the Ooyama Toyama Prefect in Japan!
