Alan,
I live near Santa Cruz in the mountains in a river canyon on 12 acres. Most of it is wooded hillside, but the house and garden have a mild slope. I don't dare count how many Iris I have.. They'd have to haul me away.. Hilarious!
I've got quite a few historics (and grow Edith Wolford and Immortality), as well as everything up to 2014 introductions.
Just a few of my favorite historics:
'Father Rigney' & the 'Red Douglas'
Thumb of 2015-09-06/Henhouse/410b3e

'Easter Bonnet' & 'Prairie Sunset'

The Iris that I have planted in the garden are Iris germanica, Frank Adams, Helen Collingwood,
Wabash, Rosy Wings, Indian Chief, Earl of Essex (I think), Solid Mahogany, and Coronation.
I read reviews on these and they all got good reviews, from what was written on the AIS site
and the Historical Society.

The list from Superstition garden is quite accurate. They do suggest to order historic early.

Superstition has very few that are on my Wish List. This year, the only rhizome I ordered from them is 'Vishnu' which was recommended to me. I will check their list again on Facebook to
see if any on my Wish List is available from them. Thank You!

Oh yeah! It is so good to be 'in the company' of others who love iris to the point of knowing each varieties' name and applauding each spear of new growth, and are willing g to trade for new and more acquisitions .

My Iris are growing well. Some fast, some slow. Some have side growths starting. I'm getting kinda anxious to have them in huge clumps with lots of flowers. But I think it will take a few seasons before that happens. I enjoy reading all of the threads and posts here on the forum.
I'm learning a lot, and finding a lot of great Iris I would love to add to my garden. A lot of you here
have beautiful gardens and Iris plants. Thumbs up Smiling

I'd be interested in seeing your wish list Alan... As long as it isn't 5 pages long, like mine Rolling on the floor laughing

To Sherry:: Well, I liked the photo's of the Iris you posted, so I would say I will add them to my Want List ->>>> Prairie Sunset, Father Rigbey, Red Douglas, I don't know about Easter Bonnet
yet. I have to take another look at that. I'm big on Reds & Purples, but I also like Earth tones -
I like Spartan as a Red, and Sultan's Palace too. I like Alcazar, and Interpol and Lent Williamson
and William Setchell also. I put down Jean Cayeux, but it looked to drab, I will have to find a better picture of it. I like Glen Ellen as an earthy-toned Iris, and I like Yellows also - Alta California,
Ola Kala and Lady Paramount got my attention. I saw Parthenon which I liked too which is white & yellow. I also want Tut's Gold, Shah Jehan, Sable, Junaluska, Ida Red, Cardinal, Dolly Madison,
Amas, Alice Harding. I really like Lent Williamson a lot, and think it would look great next to a terrific Red iris. Smiling

Thanks for sharing Alan.. I can probably help you out with some of those next year.

I'm not as fond of reds as you are, but I keep getting them as door prizes from our meetings. Maybe the universe is trying to change my mind Hilarious!

Wow! I am new to this group also, and to see people with more than 15 is amazing!!! Do y'all have problems with rabbits eating your rhizomes? I had set up a trail-cam to see what was eating mine, and caught them red-handed (morel like, red-pawed). I ended up having to fence in my beds, which severely cuts down the places I can plant them Sighing!

I had a rabbit problem for a couple of years, then a bobcat moved Into the neighborhood, and no more bunnies. Now I need to keep an eye the pets....

Welcome! djinnevada, Rabbits don't bother mine in the summer, but in the winter if there's no snow cover, they will eat them. I think I need to hire a bob cat! Hilarious!
