Somebody at work asked me "where do you get all these kinds of lilies? I've never seen anything like that...and that...and that..."

My response, "I think if you were an addict, you'd know where to find them. And after a while, they start to seek you out."

I guess all they know are the dessicated sprouted dutch bulbs in the mart stores. Fortunately I discovered the growers early on.

Here's my blooms for the day that barely reached 60 degrees. Wet and cold, not my idea of great growing weather.

'Honey Bear'

'Corsage'

'Tiny Todd' in mass bloom

'Burnt Orange' I'm realizing that these marts are terrible to get a good picture of...

Okay...slightly off the subject but I have had my eye on this foliage since it first popped out. It has to be the nicest foliage I have ever seen on a lily. It is 'Red David', a strain from the Lily Garden, but each of the bulbs I got from her have this beautiful wispy foliage that I am just loving!

I know what you mean about photographing martagons. Sometimes I will bend the stem toward the horizontal so there is a darker background to give a truer color to the flower.

You like nice, wispy foliage? how about these...

Moby, the Rudbeckias are self-seeded crosses from several varieties planted years ago; Cherokee Sunset, Green Eyes, Prairie Sun, and Chim Chimnee. Each new season brings different manifestations, most are very cool, occasionally bizarre. Most of the rear border of garden isn't mulched because this increases the probability for self-seeding success.
Last year I grew some of the Cherry Brandy but I've noted no characteristics of that variety in any any of these pictured Rudbeckias. Interestingly. couple of the Cherry Bandy seem to have survived the winter heaving inevitibilty.
Here's some pics to illustrate some distinctive representatives that materialized this year:

This pic shows 4 different configurations. (Note the different colors and petal shapes in flower just right of center.)

Amazing Rudbeckias! I never seen any like #2 or the last one. Do you collect seeds from the special ones or just let them all reseed? Outstanding bunch of lilies too. Blood Queen is one I'd be interested in trading for if you ever have enough and see something of mine you'd like.

Nice looking rudbeckias indeed. Some real neat crosses. Having a few varieties close by each other here, Prairie Sun always comes back true to seed. Pretty neat the offspring you've got there.

Beautiful lilies as always.

I'm glad I planted Midnight in a place where a pink lily looks OK. This year it's has a little more color than some years. Disappointing for sure. Let me know if you find a true purple lily.

I havnt found a deep purple yet. I was almost home with Purple Prince but this year 2 of the 3 bulbs didnt come back.Voles I think.

'Prairie Jewel'

'Melissa Jamie'

'Summer Valley' The Valley series from Johan Mak Sr. are his finest asiatic works, I think. They really are beautiful. I may not have captured it well, but there is a nice melon tone to the edges. It's really quite gorgeous.

I happened to look up Elise in the Lily Registry, and it's division I (a/c) !!!
http://www.lilyregister.com/re...

I've heard of a/b and b/c, but what the heck is an a/c?
