How far back can you cut lilies when they are done blooming?
Do you feed them after they are done blooming?
Any tips on what lilies like appreciated.
Thanks! Smiling

Try not to cut more than 1/3 of the stem. The stem feeds the lilium bulb after it has finished blooming,.dont remove the stem, until its brown and falls off,.

Don't be confused...
I don't know what a stem would fall off of either! Big Grin

Most of the time a brown and dried up lily stem doesn't even fall over, unless it is very small. The thing to realize here is that even as the stem is dying, food from the stem is being transported and stored in the bulb.

I also feed after they bloom. I use Bulbtone.
I feed all tyhe bulbs then, tulips included.
I feed Lilies and tulips in spring when they first emerge. Later I drench lilies including iris with Imidicloprid to kill Red Lily Beetle and Iris borer.

So after they are done blooming we leave the stem with the little leaves to feed the bulb -- got it....

Now, I have these in a container right now (cause I couldn't decide where to plant the bulbs this spring)... when can I transplant these to their permanent location? Also can I cut the stem back before I do that or should I take both the bulb and stem?

Thanks!

I think cut off the tops so they wouldn't go to seed. IS that ok?
