NoID - no idea on who/what/where I bought this. I know I bought this this year.. but I don't remember buying it!! And I know it had to have been past the middle of May because this was put in after I buried poor Freyja. Any ideas? I know I wouldn't have bought a rose like this.. not my kind of rose. Pretty though. I guess I can just dig about a foot down & see if there's a tag still on it.

Many of these blooms are most definitely un-crappy. Your beautiful NOID has the look of a Generosa. Did you buy any Massad-Guillot roses from Roses Unlimited? Could it be a very faded Sonia Rykiel or Florence Delattre or one of the other Generosas?

You don't care for apricots, but look at your magnificent Medallion. Doesn't it make you want more apricot-blend roses?

I love that Medallion, and apricot roses in general. As usual, Toni, you are much too critical of your gardening efforts. Those are some lovely blooms. That Mardi Gras absolutely glows!

Zuzu - the way it's planted from what I saw means its has to be a HD rose. I'll be digging it partially up saturday morning to see if I can find a tag. If there's no tag, then I'll have to wing it. It might be that mysterious "Shreveport" I bought earlier. I doubt that the tag, if any, is correct as, like I said before, it's not a rose I would normally buy. It's wayyy too big to be any rose from RU. All of mine from them ..

Wait.

I remember buying four roses from their 2-year old plant sale. But still, those were still kinda piddly compared to this rose. I'll just have to do some digging to figure it out.

What I hate now is that, while we're getting some much-needed rain, I'm also starting to see black spot. I have a few roses showing signs of black spot. Bleh. Mostly OGR rather than some of my hybrids. Usually ones with French names. LOL!!

But, on a positive note: my Princess of Monaco is FINALLY putting out new leaves!!! I'm hoping to get lots of leaves before a frost comes through, so I'm looking at 2 more months probably. I think we're going to have a normal fall as the geese are starting to V-line south & the bucks are still in velvet. They're also still very red, which tells me a normal autumn rather than a early winter. If they were to start turning gray, then we'd be in for a early snowy winter.

The other thing the NOID looks like to me is Souvenir de la Malmaison. Did you have that one?

The OGR's in my garden always have more black spot than the modern roses, and this year the OGR's are showing traces of powdery mildew and rust, which they've never shown before. We've had peculiar weather all year here, though: June in January, and January in June. People assume the hybridizers of modern roses were just going for good colors and good bloom shape, but they were also working on resistance to disease.

The very worst offenders in my garden every single year when it comes to black spot, however, are the Buck roses, which are supposed to be so disease-free. Humph!

You mentioned Princess of Monaco and I wanted to tell you a recent thing that came up with that rose. I had someone contact me on HMF regarding my image of that rose, she is an operatic set designer and had requested a larger copy of my image for their programs but the printer said they needed something much larger than what I shoot in. She was sad as she had already come up with a design and sent me her copy shown below. I love how she cropped my original, I barely recognized it as my photo!

beautiful. What sold me on this rose was that it had a single bloom on it when I bought it. it had only 1 green cane, but the cane looked healthy enough. I have tons of new leaves on it and since we've been getting almost a nightly drizzle/rain, I think it's finally awake! I'm going to feed it some Age Old Fish tonight and hopefully that'll REALLY jumpstart it. And if I can get it to survive the winter (I'm going to literally bury the entire thing in mulch w/a bucket protecting it), then I'm gonna be so excited!!! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
