Here are two pictures.
The way I see it I have two options. I can use it as is (as you can see I have removed the glass plates but you can see where they go, but I'm not that crazy about glass), and keep it in my covered lanai and maybe load it with succulents. Or I can 'bury' it somewhere in the yard and let nature take its course mostly, maybe giving it a head start with some vines.
I know there are very imaginative and talented people here, so give me some suggestions please! I think the piece has great 'bones'.

It would make a wonderful succulent container, Hetty. I ♥ succulents so that's what I would do. It could hold both succulents and other plants as well on the lanai. Mix it up with a combination of things. I personally like the "bones" of the piece and that would deter me from covering it with vines. But that's also a good use for it. Big Grin

OK, so - if I did that - what could I use to put the plants on. I am not crazy about the glass.

Well, you could line all or part of it with sheet moss (or chicken wire or fine screening put in place first and then put the moss over that) and then add soil for direct planting or just set pots on the moss if you don't want to plant it directly. I may not be thinking exactly as you are picturing it. There are several "levels" to the piece and that makes it interesting. Baskets are an option too and would look great in it.

Hetty, do you want to give it a pop color or leave it as it is? I really love your cart.

Is glass bothering you because of breakability? If so, you can have HD or Lowes cut thick plastic shelves in many colors.

If it were mine I'd paint it blue. (But I love color!) I'd use the levels too and have a large leafed plant in back and 2 smaller ones in the front. Also, hang a basket or two from the handle.

(I needed to be creative this morning...school work is so left brained)

No - I definitely do not want to paint it; I love the natural rattan look.
And glass bothers me because you set pots on it and then they don't drain properly. Plus, I just don't like the look. It's good sturdy glass, so it wouldn't break easily.
I'm already starting to see the look by you guys suggesting to hang baskets from the handles. I think what I am envisioning is to break up the 'formal', symmetrical lines of the piece and make it more whimsical. So keep the ideas coming!

Well, that looks nice and the idea of a larger plant and a lower basket with smaller ones is good, but now I am still putting the pots/basket on a floor of some kind (do not want to use glass shelf if I can help it). Help!

Ya gotta rock or two, Hetty?
If you had something like bricks or rocks you could raise and lower the pots. Or a low terra cotta pot turned upside down with a larger pot on top of it?
Maybe?
It would give you different levels of height for things on the floor.

Kewlio ... lol, Vic. Hilarious! NIce, Becky.

You've got the perfect round places to hold smaller pots built right in there already. Those must have been either glass or bottle holders. You could run wire where the bottom shelf was and line with moss, plant or set plants there. Also, those inexpensive wooden or bamboo placemats would look good lining a bottom shelf and would allow for drainage. Put the screening or chicken wire in the bottom opening and line with the mats. Up top, I might put something like this long basket to hold plants and things (garden art??) ... it would fit across the opening and could be wired in place with florist's wire or any thinner wire ... or not, if you don't get a lot of wind and it won't be bumped into much. Just throwin' out some ideas. I'm sure others will come along with more. Big Grin
