Thread OP

My jade plant had root rot so I cut off the affected roots and have a white clean trunk and want to repot it. What soil is best and what size pot should I use. The trunk is about 2 inches in diameter.

Thank you
Joanna

Hi Joanna, I usually repot in a container depending on the amount of root mass left and the relative size/height of the plant. Do allow the roots to heal a bit so do not water right away. You may have to stake the plant a bit till it gets to anchor itself again. Roots of Jade plants are pretty much smaller and shallow, so try not to use too deep a container. I just use cacti soil and I further add perlite or pumice to really make it well draining. Position the plant after repot in part sun/shade till it adjusts again to your new container set up.

I wanted to repot my jade plant a couple of years ago during the winter, and I was told not to, because of the shallow root system and their propensity to rot. So, I just left it in the small pot (12 or 14 inch, can't remember). It is so ungodly top-heavy that I just set that pot in a large decorative one to give it more weight. At least it doesn't tip over. LOL

Good luck with yours, Joanna.
