Me five Elaine! The females are looking especially pretty right now aren't they? I was watching 1 in the birdbath yesterday & admiring her feathers & coloring.

What did we ever do before there was the Internet, huh Ann?

I saw another Blue-gray Gnatcatcher today, up quite close to my window. Such pretty little things, but they're so tiny and so quick plus usually they are up in the bamboo or in the oak trees. They aren't interested in the feeders.

I think the only way I'll ever catch a good picture of one is if I drag the tripod up onto the roof, set it up aimed at the tree, and then hope I haven't scared all the birds away by invading their turf.

I had this male Ruby-throated hummingbird hanging around watching me work in the backyard today. I took this photo from under the rose arbor. He was perched above me, watching me go back and forth as I worked. He'd then fly to the Cassia tree to further watch as I worked planting daylilies in a new raised bed.

I then zoomed in and took a photo of his head.

Elaine, you will get 14 gold stars if you can manage to get a blue grey gnatcatcher on pixels. Heck, it's hard enough just trying to watch them. They are like little live wires!

Ann - Thank you! I wasn't intentionally trying to be "artistic". It was overcast and gloomy outside today. The photos are not black and white photos. They were taken looking up towards the sky and just turned out that way. I should have used a backlight setting so I wouldn't have gotten the silhouetting effect. But I did like the photos when I downloaded them to my computer and thought they were different than what I usually take. A different perspective ....

I know Beckie. It was one of those happy accident things. The photos turned out so wonderful, you couldn't have planned it better IF you had planned it. I love when things like that happen.

We just saw a Hooded Warbler in the birdbath. My hubs grabbed the binoculars & I was running for the camera. DH got a super good look at it. I got a great look without binoculars but by the time I got the camera & was ready to shoot.......... well, shoot! Gorgeous bird!!!!! Brighter than the sun!!!!
It was an adult male. I've never seen this one before. Looking at the maps they show them breeding here in our county but since I've never seen it before I think it was just migrating. The info. says they migrate at night & that would jive with the time we've seen it. It will probably take off for points south in another hour or less.
