I see 2 rose hips on Red Corsair (climber). Has anyone on this forum ever planted the seeds from roses? Any success? Any tips?

Margie ...

Here's an article written by Dr. Malcolm Manners on Paul Barden's old rose site. Paul is another breeder who was mentored by Ralph Moore ... Smiling

If you do a Google search about "how to grow rose seeds", you will get a lot of hits. I just happen to know Paul and know he had a lot of guest conribitors to his site, so this article may be just a starting point for you.

Smiles,
Lyn

Thank you Tom and Lyn for your helpful tips.
I stumbled across the following link during one of my many searches:

Margie your link is also about breeding rose. :)

Have fun! If this dumb old hippy can get rose seed to germinate, I fully expect you to do well.

Thanks for your encouraging words Tom. According to what I have read on various sites and articles, my rose hip is not ripe. One site mentioned it should feel soft. And yet another suggests to keep checking the stem - when it changes color - darkens - it's ready. I'll keep you abreast of my progress. Peace - Margie

My rose hips may be past ripe, but I am trying the seeds anyway. Instead of paper towels, I am using moist vermiculite in a zip loc bag in the fridge.
