I've traveled 400+ miles across NC this year alone and have purchased over 400 established intermediate, tb, and reblooming plants and rhizomes. I've met some of the nicest plant people along the way. The best part is I spent only $150 for the whole inventory

Now that is a lot of irises to get started in one season.

How much room do you have for planting? Have you put most of the 400+ in ground? Looks like you have some in pots--as do most of us, I think. I like the options with holding them in containers for a year or two.

For the most part, it's a somewhat cheap addiction I've started. I've gone around my neighborhood giving some away as well. A great ice breaker and some of the happiest faces when a random new guy on the street hands you free bunches of rhizomes. Gosh I'd have over 500.
I'm still clearing woods, and can't beat mother nature. Luckily, the local Lowe's gives away free pots

I have about .5 acre to work with, but I reserved about .25 just for the iris collection

Lowes does the same here, but you have to get there reallllllly early--the word got out.

This is a earlier pic of the space I've been clearing. It was overtaken by good Ole English Ivy and small trees. Now it's 8+ hours of sunshine. The ivy have been almost pulled by the rhizome like network all by hand. NO HELP either!! All by hand

You will be happy with the results when they bloom!

And great satisfaction knowing that you have created something so beautiful all by yourself. You inspire me to keep on with my fall chores and perhaps make another TB bed..... perhaps tomorrow will be a great day to start on it.
