gardengus & @bonitin,

the pictures you posted under Potentilla nepalensis Miss Willmott seems to have been placed on the wrong entry. I understand your flowers correspond to the generic Potentilla nepalensis. Miss Willmott is bi-colour, like the pictures @robertduval14 and @foraygardengirl posted.

Cheers,

ursula

Thumb of 2015-10-19/gardengus/fd0953

This is the sign
and in the photo (upper right)you can just about make out the tag in the plant

I do agree it does not seem to be a good representation of the plant color
feel free to move it to the general potentilla or have it deleted
It is all good with me Smiling

You purchased your plant as 'Miss Willmott', gardengus? To me, it looks like the generic P.n., but @zuzu should make the decision.

I received seeds many years ago from a trade at DG and have since grown many plants from seed. They do come true to the sport Miss Willmott and are easy to grow. Would you like to give them a try if I sent you the seeds?

It is rather misleading. I'll move it to the species entry.

I also bought mine with the tag: Potentilla nepalensis 'Miss Willmott', but indeed I think you're right Ursula, it is probably the true species.
I searched on the web and it is confusing, most of the photos look like yours but there are also many that look like mine also with that cultivar name, I think nurseries are not always honest and/or accurate with their naming and cause confusion Rolling my eyes.

I've proposed to move mine to the true species..

You are right, Myriam, Google searches are quite confusing. It seems to me that when they do not find enough of the exact search, they add related items/pictures.

Of course, I can be totally wrong - just that I was told Miss Willmott must be bicolour (like mine: apricot and red), but I have also seen two contrasting shades of pink being called Miss Willmott as well by the magazine of the RHS.

The seed offer is open to you as well!

Just a thought...I have had Miss Willmott for many years. It does not always look the same and in fact the flower color varies a lot. I divided one plant several years ago and replanted the two pieces in different spots. They actually looked like two different plants.

Maybe one piece just happened to be a sport?

I am not sure how "sports" work...I split the plant into two pieces. Before splitting it all looked exactly the same. After replanting, one piece got less sun than the other, though not a drastic difference. The flowers look different through the season as well. Some might be lighter, some darker, etc.
