I just added a new plant to my new garden. At the Ventura County Fair I picked up a burg with Apricot colored flowers for $10.00. It is a well rooted cutting in a 4 inch pot. Put that with the pink hydrangea I discovered under an overgrown jade plant already in the yard and I've got a good start (plus my mini-roses) for my garden.

You're in the 'fun' part of gardening...acquiring new plants...lol...

I would imagine that the hydrangea would do quite well in Ventura....

I'm sorry that you live so far away from me. I'm always rooting and propagating and have lots of stuff you could use in your new garden....
We never get up that way anymore.

That's gorgeous, Marti. Do you grow them in pots and bring them in for the winter? I noticed you mentioned a jade plant in your garden. You must have a mild mini-climate in your garden. A jade plant would never get overgrown here. It would die the first winter, and I'm in zone 9.

Wellburrn Gourd Farm is about 8-10 miles of town toward De Luz. Were you just guessing or had you heard of it and their Gourd Festival?
http://www.welburngourdfarm.co...

That's a beautiful brug. I love them, but worry about the poisonous factor and the critters. I have one that's doing well, don't know what color it is, it was given to me. Don't know if I'll keep it.

Oh no! I went back to check the Gourd Farm link to see when the festival is...was going to tell you that you just missed it in June and I see now that this year was their "Last and Final Festival". I would imagine they're still open, just not holding the festival any longer, but I haven't checked that yet.

I've heard about Wellburn farms before. Now that I'm backi in Calif I'll be going out there to buy gourds for my crafts. If I head that way I'll let you know in advance.

Please do..then hopefully I'll have some things to share with you. I've been clearing out a lot of stuff, but am still rooting more. I'm not doing the full ton of cuttings now, but plopping a few in water in the kitchen as I see things that someone else may like....and I have some seeding to do.

I always say that I'm going to do something with gourds, but never get to it. LOVE gourds...and yet, have never gone to Wellburrn. We also have the Avocado Festival every year and we've lived here 29-30 years or so now and went once, years ago...lol...not a crowd person and the Gourd Festival drew crowds. If you get a chance, and you're doing something with gourds, show us some pics. I like to see what others are working on.....

I've been painting gourds for a few yrs and just this year I tried something new.
Thumb of 2011-08-11/marti/fc73db Had little pieces of material laying around and decided to try to use them on a gourd and this is what I came up with.

Thumb of 2011-08-11/marti/a465fd For Christmas and in the back ground you can see one of my painted ones.

I also paint rocks to look like animals, fish, flowers, & houses. I have to replace all my paints and brushes before I can start painting again. Till than I'm working in the garden space around the trailer.

Don't feel bad! I took art for 2 yrs in high school finally the nun teaching the class refused to have me come back a 3rd year because she said I had no artistic talent at all.

Love your cat rock. I've down several cat rocks, smaller but they are so fun to do.

I used to do lots of stuff but the hands don't work as well as they used to. I think many years of pulling / weeding Bermuda grass did them in.

Ah, the experts know nothing...What is Art? I'm sure Dylan would have been told that he couldn't sing. My husband was told that he couldn't sing and he's pretty good..lol. I think that any time someone tells you that you have no talent, it's because you're not doing it the way they want you to do it.
