Night Beacon is an early to mid-season bloomer with extended bloom and possible re-bloom. It Shows Susceptibility rating of 4.9. It has earned the following AHS awards: JC: 1988 and Honorable Mention: 1998. It is pod and pollen fertile with 5 registered children: http://garden.org/plants/paren...

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Night Beacon')

I purchased Night Beacon in 2014 from Gilbert & Sons. It bloomed for me the very first year. Here are pictures from 2014 and 2015. It seems to be filling in nicely with more fans. It is a short DL and is great for borders. Its pretty bloom really stands out.

I got Night Beacon from Smokey's Daylily Garden two years ago, and it has never bloomed. After the first year of non blooming, I requested a replacement , and it has not bloomed either....it must be me. I moved the fans to a pot to baby until the spring.

Night Beacon daylily makes a nice front of the border plant. It reblooms nicely for me and forms a nice clump. I love the green center/throat on the purple red flower. I've only had my 2 clumps for 2 years. They will surely need to be divided next year, as they grow so well in my zone 8a garden. I have a friend with her eyes on my divisions.

I've had this one for many years. The first couple of years it didn't flower and had bad spring sickness. After I moved it to another spot it started to flower every year, must be around 15 years now, although this year it skipped for some reason. I'm so partial to the flower that I wouldn't dream of getting rid of it unless it never flowered again!

I purchased Night Beacon at Culver’s Nursery in Marion, IA in Oct 2012 at their end of the year half price sale. It has be a trooper and bloomed the next summer and every year since. I divided it this year after bloom. It gets only morning sun and still does very well. Beautiful flower! One of my favorites.

This Daylily is one of my favourites and one of the first ones I purhcased - about 5 years ago. As mentioned above, it is great at the front of a bed. It is striking but not too tall. I've dug up sections in the past to give to others but have put a halt on that for the next couple of years. I don't find that it grows very quickly and after a couple of years, the show of flowers was weakened and I suspect from too many divisions.

Sue, Deborah and Lin, just curious, what is the scape height you're getting? It's registered as 27" and I would say mine gets about that, which isn't the tallest but not short compared to others I have.

I don't think mine is that tall, however, it is planted in one of the gardens that probably has the worst soil of all of them. Also, it has only been there for two seasons now. I'll bet next year it will be better. I plan to fertilize many of my daylilies next year. It's been a while since I've done that. Other than the Milogranite (did I spell that right?) that I spread mostly to keep the deer away.

I like Night Beacon so much it's one of the few I have twice. It is not very tall, I'm sure the soil could be better. But the blooms still put on a great show.

I haven't had any blooms yet for Night Beacon because it is one I've only had since September. I purchased it from 5 Acre Farms in Tolono, IL. (This was part of my second purchase from them -- Rod, one of the co-owners, is a great person.)



So far, it has grown well, despite some cold zaps recently. I still have to go out and bury the tag--and soon!--iIt looks like the leaves might bust out of the straps any day now and let the wind carry the tag away.

Personally, I think it's neat that Night Beacon is a descendant of Ciao, another cultivar I just recently purchased (from Oakes Daylilies). I'm hoping that means that there are some recessive genes for white edges in it that are just lying dormant and waiting to be hybridized with other white-edged cultivars.

I wish I could add more, but I don't have anything acorn-worthy to say about this plant yet. I'll try to remember to come back to this thread in the spring or summer of 2016 when it blooms (hopefully) for me.

I've never actually measured it. The following pic was taken this summer. The pink plant in front of it (the picture was taken from the back forward) is a low ground cover and the grey at the very front of the garden is a concrete block up an inch or two. Doesn't give as good a view as something else right beside a scape that we would be familiar with to compare with but it's all I have.



This pic taken 2 weeks later shows a scape in front of a rose maker used in the garden to label plants. I have 12" and 24" markers. This is definitely a 24" one in front of my Ruby Day lily and that would be poked into the ground somewhat to hold it up making the scape less than 27".

I have been growing Night Beacon for 9 years. For me, the color is striking. It has increased reasonably well. The scapes are about 2 feet tall. I have it placed in 2 spots front of the bed. I am just getting into bud count but I am happy with the show this gem puts on. A keeper.
