I found this link to be very helpful in our battles with this.
Upon doing some work in the gardens I noticed some leaves looking pretty droopy, so I got to looking closer at the base of the plant & noticed it yellowing & some nasty stuff that almost looked oozy-ish (if that is a word?) Anyhow.. I immediately came into the house & looked it up. This MN site came up in my search & explained it perfectly.
With not much to lose either way, we chose to cut the vines & dig the worms out. The cuts were then covered with wet dirt & kept moist for a couple days. I believe only 2-3 vines totally were lost doing this out of maybe 40 vines.
Some of these plants have now been cut not once but twice & are still holding their own. When we noticed the second round of infestation... I have to admit I didnt put much hope into it... just started cutting & prayed while doing so. Looks good for now.
Have you battled these little buggers before? If so what treatment have you used?
