We used to see those magpies all the time when we lived in Salt Lake City. They're pretty aggressive and would dive-bomb our cats at times. Such graceful, long tails and the black and white color scheme is so dramatic.

I wonder if they're venturing further north this year because of the very long, hot summer you had up there?

Elaine, I have heard that they are aggressive birds, we watched him and he was not too shy about going after our young resident squirrel, I said he could stay and eat as long as he left the other birds alone, he didn't stay that long and he hasn't been back since.

Here goes. The adult Bush Stone-curlews brought their baby in about 30 minutes ago. Their young are precocious and this one was quite confident and came close but the time was just after sunset. I used a telephoto and flash in the dull light. The bubs are quite gorgeous but difficult to see at the best of times as you can tell by their camouflage patterning.

Wonderful curlew shots, Glen. That baby really is beautiful.

Nice woodpecker shots there too, Cindy. He's pretty fond of those corn cobs isn't he!

The pileated won't eat at my feeders either - not even the suet. Speaking of which...... I had 2 out & they both got moldy very, very quickly. Thumbs down Thumbs down I think I'll wait a while before putting any more out. Wait until winter sets in good.

Thanks Claudia. I saw 2 Townsend's Solitaires this morning but they were chasing each other and wouldn't sit still for a photo. Angry They were very handsome with their slim build, long tails and the striking white eye ring. Lovey dubby
