I just love that baby Curlew! Christine's description of "Knees on backwards" sure fits. Green Grin!

Glen, I agree that your plant in question appears to be one of the Plectranthus commonly called "Cuban Oregano" http://garden.org/plants/searc... I used to grow one of those; I never used it as a culinary herb but rather an ornamental and they are lovely plants and produce pretty little flowers too!

There were lots of White Ibises around this morning; some perched on the power lines while others were walking around feeding in the lawn.

Well, Grumbling I typed a post and uploaded a few photos but had two windows opened and went to close out of one and shut down ATP by mistake so let me try this again. Green Grin! We took the dog for a walk around a local lake this evening and I got a few bird pictures to share.

Just saw this on Facebook and thought I'd share with all the bird lovers. You can symbolically "adopt" a bird on Audubon.com this season. And they send you a plushie of the bird and when you squeeze it, it plays the call of the bird! Squee! How cute is that? Here's the main page for the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, but keep scrolling down and you'll see all the varieties you can "adopt". Great gift for that bird lover in your life. Or yourself. Just sayin'. Maybe send this link to a loved one with a "hint, hint".

Love this idea Melanie! I'm a member of the Nat'l Audubon Society but I just might have to adopt one of these birds for the holidays! You can save 25% by using the promo code CYBER (expires at 10:00 p.m. tonight). I just tested it with the Bald Eagle and it was $30 instead of the regular price of $40. http://www.audubon.org/

Actually the Cormorants aren't noisy at all. The Sand Hill Cranes however ARE! Blinking

Herons and Egrets can be quite loud and I have heard Cormorants making screeching noises at times but thank goodness it's not constant because there are lots of cormorants around here. When we were walking around the lake the other evening, there were lots of cormorants roosting in the trees and some were really loud ... I don't know if it was their way of conversing with each other or if the screeching was a territorial thing, with each one vying for the tree branches. Green Grin!

I see large flocks of White Ibis together feeding or perched side by side without issues but when I see a single Egret and another happens by, there tends to be a bit of a scuffle with one usually chasing the other off. This morning the Snowy Egret and Tricolored Heron were perched on the power line together and then feeding near each other along the waters edge but another white egret came flying in and chased the other egret off ... and boy was there a loud commotion during the scuffle. I've also seen Egrets chasing each other in flight and making a loud ruckus when doing so.
