I'm still learning but I feel stupid asking this question as I'm sure there is a simple enough answer; I just can't find it on my own.

In our database we have a listing for:
Elephant Ears (Xanthosoma) (Xanthosoma)

Why is the word Xanthosoma in parenthesis listed twice?
Thank you

I believe this a programming requirement made necessary because I wanted to use the same common name (Elephant Ears) for multiple custom databases (Xanthosoma, Alocasia and Colocasia). Dave is always accommodating but there are limits. Smiling You'll see that all three genera are grouped together in our Visit our custom databases: list.

When these custom databases were first created we used the genus name alone to identify them. Elephant Ears, however, is the most frequently used name for all three of these genera. Most discussion threads lump them together as well. My hope is that those new to them can more easily find "Elephant Ears" in our database and see the differences as well.

Since it's a computer programming thing it's beyond my scope of understanding. Thank you for explaining. I will have to be content to not understand. Thank You!

Edited to add:
I was able to add EE XX to my plant list; thanks.
