After a pretty container of "Million Bells" blew off its perch and perished, I put my thinking cap on.

LOL... and bungee cords do look less awkward around pots than duct tape. But I'm a big fan of both!

I bungee'd a couple of plastic containers to the base of my front porch columns this summer, too... no more chasing them down after a storm.

I have used bungees to steady a trellis in a pot of epis which was getting out of control.

Glad to see I'm not the only one, but yours is prettier! I've been bungeing plastic window boxes/pots to hold them on the rail of a second floor deck, and they work really well.

Jill, for years I've had to use bungees to keep really large plants and pots from going over and off benches. When you have huge Alocasias in 20 gallon pots, they are not something you want to have to stand up after a storm. I had to use industrial strength heavy rubber or polyurethane bungee cords in quantity to do the trick, but they worked. That is, until the plant got too large and I had to move it up to an even larger pot!

Note - if you find occasion to need heavy bungee cords for outdoor use and don't want to wake up one morning to find your cheap bungee snapped and left your pot full of plants to crash to the ground, look into "perfect bungees". They are made from polyurethane, not rubber, and do not deteriorate like the rubber ones do. I've had black rubber bungees that appeared to be in perfect shape, yet they suddenly snap in two without warning and the plant goes flying! Perfect bungees won't do that to you - besides, they come in really exciting colors, not just black! I like the hot pink, purple, fluorescent orange and red, but the other colors are great, too. Google "perfect bungee" at amazon.com to see them.

Planter boxes definitely need something to hold them to railings! Mine are wood, and I put L-shaped "hooks" (the kind that screw in) on the bottom... I can turn them inward to anchor the planter to the railing or outward to remove the planter for the winter.

LariAnn, I appreciate the tip re. "perfect bungees" -- thanks!

Ditto! I've never used bungees for my plants, but we use them for holding things down in our utility trailer, and have also had the "perfect-looking" black rubber ones snap unexpectedly.

And whatever anyone is doing with bungee cords -- please be careful! A friend had one snap while he was pulling on it, and the end flew back and hit him in the eye, causing significant damage. Blinking
