I just came in from checking on the potted chaos. These evening and morning Temps have left ALOT of fans with scorch on the tips. It's still early in the year though...

Any advice or just let nature take its course? This happened before the alfalfa was thrown in, by the way.

That looks like drought damage to me Gabe. Are these last years leaves? If so don't worry. New leaves will be replacing them soon. New little growth have started on most of my irises and the older leaves will come off soon.

Leaves are typically looking pretty shabby by this time of year in this area too. I agree with Bonnie, they will die off as new spring growth emerges.

A ton of leaves have been dying as new ones grows in. It's mainly this chuck. Maybe once the freeze is over I'll juice up just a little.

Should I trim off the burnt or dead egdes?

I trim them up in spring before bloom time. You could trim them now, but would be likely to need to do it again later if you get more really cold weather. As I do my winter garden walks I pull off dead leaves that pull away easily, but will leave those that are still attached- many of those will die off in the next few weeks and I'll be able to gently pull them off as well.

I think I'll wait then. Tons of them have wilted as they should. Just waiting to see full green again. Luckily after Monday we'll be in the 60s. Spring is in the air...and probably another freeze or two

Gabriel - This year I'm trying n experiment, I've just about ignored them. I didn't trim them or nothing. I will say they look pretty sad. A few weeks ago I cleaned out the beds of leaves, twigs, garbage blown from a few neighbors yards, ect. But that's it. It's been too cold and the pain levels have increased. I can't wait for the Spring to see how it works out.

I think it's just the natural process. My experiment with fertilizers straight fried some floliage while also pumping out more increases. It was a poorly conducted experiment and I felt the excessive rain ruined it a little. I'll try mines inside a greenhouse next.

@irisarian their loss to even give it away second hand. I went with the soft cover only because it was flat cheaper. Should arrive 4-6 days.

Mary Ann, the one Lucy recommends is also carried on www.abebooks.com, my favorite used book website. The one Gabriel bought isn't there, but I did also see it on Amazon.

The gardeners iris book is very good for beginners because it covers different types of irises.
For someone who needs a great deal of information on genetics 'the World of Irises' is available from AIS for $18. that includes shipping.
