I've had problems getting pollen from Super Hero.

Brad.....I hope Mr. Keppel introduces it. I love the colors but especially the contrast of the white standards with the velvety black on the fall. You've probably noticed a tag on the stalk.....always planning for the next generation.

"I'm going for a really dark with a gold crown."

Is that something with really dark falls and gold standards, or really dark all over, with gold edging on the standards? (What the heck is a "crown"?) Trying to visualize it...

Gold edging. I'm "visualizing" a crown on a head(standards), excuse the terminology.

I would like to see an Iris with pure white standards and pure black falls, or
Pure white standards with pure black falls with blue beards.

Mr Keppel may have saved the seedling to introduce, to use in future crosses, or there is a good chance for both.....Phillip....that is a worthy goal. There are a number close to that color pattern but most have a light area near the beard.

I do most everything by intuition. Oughta be interesting.

I bought mostly reblooming and/or space age. Hopefully some of those will do well.

I think the extremely prolific Mr. Burseen is busy concocting a cross better than one of my imagining. If he isn't then Mr. Blyth is busy with it.

I do wonder what I would get by crossing Owyhee Desert with a red......

I would like to see one with red/orange standards and white falls. I don't have any idea what I would cross to get it. The new irises have so many ancestral parents that if I made a cross I might get one in a hundred in the colors I wanted. ??? This is an area where I have great wishes and dreams and little or no knowledge. A nice blue with a pink beard is on my dream wish list. Brad posted a few of his seedlings on another thread that I would have been over the moon to have created.

Phillip and Leslie - go for it!

I commit to making at least one white iris cross this coming season, if things are in bloom. (*Cough*, neglect, shade, *cough*.) And maybe a different cross, if the whites aren't in bloom. Whistling

(I really need to work on iris beds and iris planting this summer. But I hate the heat... and everything has to be protected from gophers... (* whine *))

You're all really inspiring me to give pollen daubing a try. I will confine my efforts to pinks and blues, and I suppose my fantasy cross would result in a pink and blue bicolor.

I see why using newer varieties as parents helps bring something new to the table, but what about back crossing a newer one with an older variety? I'm thinking of beautiful oldies that I would like to see size or ruffles added to. I'm assuming they'd have to match as to # of chromosomes.

My Beloved looks like it has a bit of a greenish tint to it. Perhaps crossing it with one like Dodger Blue would result in some turquoise tones.
