Hi, I am mostly an iris person, but I love my one hoya carnosa and would love to add more varieties. I should visit more often. Smiling

You all have such beautiful Hoya's..I'm so jealous lol. A friend gave me one and I have no idea how to take care of it or any information on it. Please help..I don't want to kill it. Sighing!

I do know that the little things that hang down, that have the flowers inside are purple and they open up to this.

Thumb of 2016-02-09/GrowingCrazyLeonda/e65a44

Also she gave me this and someone said that this could also be a Hoya. What you do pros think?

Hi Linnea! Your first plant reminds me of Hoya pubicalyx ..but there are several types of it. You are lucky it is alive! I successfully killed mine oops! Have underestimated its cold temp tolerance. My bad!

Your plant with scalloped leaves, somehow it reminds me of a Kalanchoe either marmorata or fedtschenkoi, sometimes it starts all green first before the other attributes of variegation or spots manifest. But I maybe wrong.

1. Wax Plant (Hoya carnosa)
2. Does not look like a Hoya but more resembles Florist Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana)

Kalanchoes are such fun plants to grow. I guess Linnea, your plant is seeking more light that is why it is really etiolating, meaning stretching too tall. And if it is in too much shade, it gets deeper green leaf color.

Sorry, this is hoya thread, but just to show the two Kalanchoes I have grown, really differs as it matures and grows tall, the other aspects that differentiates them from the other is sometimes not evident always depending on what stage of growing it is in: thankfully I can still differentiate them with their stem as well. I think when the weather warms up further, then the spotting and variegations will be more prominent once more.

When I initially got them and repotted in July 2013:
K. fedtschenkoi to the left and K. marmorata to the right

This Feb 2016: same plants so different looking Smiling

I have rooted cuttings of several houseplants including the hoya if anyone wants to trade come June.

I picked up a plant at HD last night just because it is tagged as a "Hoya" but Ido not think it is a true Hoya.

This does not have the look of cluster flower head but the leaves are definitely Hoya they are thick and rigid like a succulent

A little research I came up with this.....

The leaves sure do look like a Hoya, but my first impression was this... Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus)

Though I could be way off base. *Blush*

Tara I agree that is her name. I did not think it was a Hoya because of the flower.

Thank you.

That company installs Xmas lighting. It's not a plant nursery. That looks like what we call "ice plant." Not a Hoya.

Well, I said it was "ice plant," but it isn't. I remember it growing on berms where nothing else would grow and in full sun. I'm going plant hopping tomorrow with a couple of ATP folks, so I'll ask for someone to ID it at one of the nurseries.
