My seeds are coming up. I'm thinking the tallest ones should be up-potted. Can I use the seed starter mix or go for potting mix?

Lawn has recovered pretty well from winter and it's only early April.

Click on it and let me know if you see any weeds... they have to go! nodding

Thanks, Sally. The back yard needs some weed control, clover popped up last week. But the front yard is as good as I need it to be... just a matter of maintaining it now that I have eliminated nearly all the weeds.

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
Cam-- You and I are the big Milorganite promoters. Thumbs up
I try to convince my customers at the HD to buy a bag of it and see for themselves.
If only they stopped going for the Scotts bags of everything.
These will put you in poverty!!!

That reminds me--I need to put some down. G.

Yes, Gita... another advantage of the Milorganite, cheaper than the synthetic fertilizers.

I put some down when winter started so I'm ready for another treatment too.

I've convinced a couple of friends at work to try it out and I'm sure they'll never go back to the synthetic fertilizers again.

CAM, looking good! I think I see an itty bitty weed in the top right hand corner - NOT Rolling on the floor laughing I was checking out the Scotts products at Lowes yesterday. The Scotts webpage recommended putting down their Turf Builder Lawn Soil, but I didn't see that - just the seed, weed control, and fertilizer products. Didn't feel like asking anyone either because I wasn't actually ready to buy it yet - still need to measure the square footage. For my conditions I could either get the all Shade grass seed or the Sun/Shade grass seed. My first instinct is the all Shade, but with those 5 big oaks down maybe the Sun/Shade? What do you think?

Thanks, Lisa.

Haha, Terry... cute. The only reasons they recommend their lawn spoil is to have loose dirt to rake the seed into and have a nutrient rich soil to start the seed. You can skip that as long as your soil isn't really hard and poor quality. If I'm thinking of the area you are talking about, I would go with a mixed seed, shade and sun tolerant. Your area is mostly shaded but getting the mix will help it withstand the hot and dry summers we often get here.

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
terri--

"Lawn Soil" can be found where all the other soils and mixes are found.
In my HD--it is along the fenced outer wall--same place the mulches are.
The Lawn Soil is good when you are seeding smaller areas of grass
It has the Starter Fertilizer already in there.

I usually steer people to buy the Pennington sun/shade grass seed
because it is a mix of about 3 fescues as well as KY bluegrass. I think a mix of seeds is better than just all fescue. Fescue may be drought tolerant--but when the high temps come along--it just burns up.
Another benefit to Penningtom seed is that their seed is coated with a fungicide.
The seed will have a slight greenish tint. Birds avoid eating it. So--you will not lose all the seed you seeded to birds eating it up.

Just my 5 cents worth. Gita

I like going to the local Ace for grass seed. They sell a number of seeds from bulk and you can select your own mix. You can add nasty things such as inoculated white clover, that you lawn purist hate. *Blush*
Also note, I refer to mine as grass not lawn, although I do like to keep it green. Smiling

hahaha... I kid! I don't expect anyone in this world to be as OCD as I am... or even nearly. Sticking tongue out
