Eric4home said:Oops! *Blush* I've been so busy that it slipped my mind that all plant entries for the flower show in York were due today. Sad It's probably not a bad thing since the weather wasn't warm at all today, and pick-up is Sunday. It would have taken at least a day to groom them and swap out some of the pots for the show, and then getting them registered and classified.

Smiling Okay let me try this again Hurray! Hurray! I missed the entry date for the York Flower show. Hilarious! Hilarious!

Count your blessings, Ric ! I hate exhibiting ! You missed out of some the most potentially boring hours of your life ... I tip my hat to you.
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

Looking good, Sally. Lots of space and you'll have fun planting along the outside walls.

Loved the dogwood photo.

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
Yeah, Sally!!! That is a beautiful-garage-to be! Looks really well-built so far.

Will it be taxed as a permanent structure?.... Confused
When my Ex built my "chalet shed"--they wanted to tax it as a permanent structure.
My Ex was way ahead of them--made the pad 8'x12' as that was the allowed size--then
he showed 'them" pictures that it was put together by 4'x4' sections and those could be dissembled
if needed. SO--NOT a permanent structure. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Is Mark and son's helping build it--or someone in the business you hired?
Hey! it is almost big enough to hold a plant swap in--if it rains... nodding

I am trying to orient my brain WHERE this will be? Is it near the end of the gravel driveway?
Seeing the big tree behind it--hmmm...is it near your veggie beds? That would not be practical...

That tree is throwing me off...... Rolling my eyes. Gita

I was very disappointed by this years show. There were half as many exhibits and even the vendors area seemed toned down. I have had great hopes this would build up, not slide back.
I have talked to some of the exhibitors in the past and they told me they were not seeing enough increase in business to justify the cost. The same may be true for the vendors, many displays were smaller and some just weren't there at all. Sad
I'm hoping the York Garden Club can help turn this around and this is just a slump.
The Harrisburg show fell apart due to bad management, such as over pricing spaces and offering no perks to exhibitors. Our GH club used to provide helpers for the Harrisburg show. Volunteers manned the info booth and handed out programs and such. New management said our services would no longer be required and our recruitment table would now cost us like $300. Confused Angry

No longer a show generated by, and managed by gardeners, for gardeners. Look at where we came from. Same as there. Sad

Sally, your garage is looking really nice!

About disappearing Ajuga: ssg, the heavy layer of leaves might have killed it. A long time ago when I had a really healthy bed of ajuga, we had our siding replaced. The workers put siding on top of the ajuga for one week tops, but when they removed it every bit of the ajuga had died. Another possibility is overwintering slugs.

I'll add some pics to give GIta a better idea. It is so hard to picture other people's yards.

MIL suite- more like 'motorcycle' suite
Plant it and they will come.

Muddy, there was a freshly-dug vole hole right next to the ajuga patch, so it was pretty obvious. The surviving ajuga also had a layer of leaves on them but there were no vole holes by them. I've found a pretty strong correlation between disappearing perennials and shrubs (hostas, hydrangeas, ajuga, crocosmia) and vole holes right by them.

Can slugs overwinter? I thought the slugs in our area all died in the winter and only the eggs survived.

SSG - it will be quite warm in the coming week. When the soil has warmed a bit, thoroughly poke the ground where your Ajuga patch had been (use your finger) to explore for and collapse any tunnels the voles may have dug underneath to gain access to the roots. There may be remnants of Ajuga root systems still in the ground and they may surprise you, sprouingt new growth in the warmer weeks ahead. Plants are pretty tenacious.

What does a vole hole look like? Different from an other varmint hole? Question sounds stupid, I realize, but I'm not joking.

That's not a stupid question, Lisa! I didn't know what they looked like either. I haven't seen any evidence of voles in my yard, but there are lots of chipmunk holes.
