Seed connoisseurs and seed newbies, don't forget to join the All Seeds Swap!

http://garden.org/apps/swap/vi...

There are so many seeds being offered, you're almost guaranteed to find a bunch that you will love! (As of this post, there are already hundreds of varieties of seeds being offered.) It's all-inclusive of seed types, so no matter what seed types you have to trade, you can!

We can't wait to swap with you, too!

Rick are you trying recruit new people? If so you can't, recruitment closes when the swap starts.

In all fairness, in the initial discussions about creating swaps on ATP, someone had posed the idea to allow members to join at any time, that way new ATP members could join a swap if they wanted, even if it had already started. I don't believe anything was said against this, so the running thought was that it was open enrollment throughout the swap. That was what I initially believed and if that's what Rick was thinking, too, I wouldn't blame him.

But yes, the swap does prevent enrollment after trading has begun, unfortunately. There will be future swaps, though, so I definitely encourage everyone to keep it in mind. We have a great group of members already and I've loved every day of this so far. I can imagine it only gets better from here, too! If you want to join in future swaps, keep it in mind!

I was not blaming Rick. I was just trying to provide the correct information. I didn't know it myself until I investigated it after the subject came up in a swap thread yesterday. Some just asked today if they could join one of the swaps, I would love to have said yes. Perhaps @dave would consider adding this option to the host control panel and let each host decide if they want to except later entries or not.

It's something I will consider but for the time being nobody can join swaps once the recruitment period is over.

Whoops! Yes I was. My bad, but now I know.

If I can find where I posted that and similar things (I think in some other forum), I'll go back aqnd correct it.

(I didn't feel at all accused. Thanks for telling me, Horntoad.)

If you do allow it, please keep us swap hosts in the loop! I would like to be able to allow late adds atleast until halfway through the swap for the reason that was brought up in previous discussions: new ATP members may want to join a swap already in progress. (Or someone might not have known about a swap or may have changed their mind about joining.)

I'm sure you have your reasons currently for disallowing it (perhaps programming related?), but from an outsider's view and looking at it from the perspective of member and host, I find the case given for allowing it to be a compelling one. Thumbs up

My own guess is that the strongest "recruiting" pitch for any seed swap is "I happened to look, and they are offering a packet of THAT which I MUST HAVE".

Or is that only the way a seedadict thinks?

Primarily it is to avoid the situation of one person joining late in the trading, offering up just a few items, and swooping up dozens and dozens of offers with the vast amounts of tickets that are given late in the game.

Ah, okay. At that point, though, I think they've lost out on any potential 'hot' ticket items, so I don't see it being too much of an issue. I guess time would tell.

I am confused . I have been watching and trying to learn about the swaps since bowing out earlier..........I dont understand ...... why do you need tickets to swap? Do all swaps have to be open to all people ? I am wondering as I made a post about swapping daylilies and dont know , now .....reading this, maybe I have done something that is not allowed on this site. How does one delete a post if in fact my post is not allowed Where does one find all the rules for what goes on on the site in general ?

I should apologize in advance for posting this here .....I have not been able to figure out where to post things and be assured I am not over stepping . Any help is appreciated

Heather, you can swap with whomever you like on the site. This discussion is relayed specifically to the seed swaps feature of the site. It's a brand new feature/tool to help form groups of swappers here on ATP.

I agree with DnD. Coming to the game late they may they be able scoop up a lot, but they are still getting the same number of tickets as everyone else. But everyone else got to pick from the start and get all the choice seeds. There is nothing stopping someone from coming in with just a few items at the beginning and picking a lot. We can post rules that say they must have a minimum number of packs or varieties, but there are no computer controls in place to enforce the rules. It's up to the host to count packs and varieties which could be tough in a large swap.

I will try the swaps in the future, but we plan to spend some time traveling in the next few months so I'm sitting it out this time. I hope it works out well. Looking foreward to joining in in the future.

Interesting -- I thought people could join at any time too... but I think the reason Dave gave above for not doing so is a good one. "Primarily it is to avoid the situation of one person joining late in the trading, offering up just a few items, and swooping up dozens and dozens of offers with the vast amounts of tickets that are given late in the game."

But if I get in on Day one with 2 offerings, except for the extra tickets (or whatever they are called) I would get for "selling" a bunch of stuff, I get more tickets every day. Would not matter if I got in on Day 1 or the next to the last day.

Am I missing something?

Not arguing against how it was set up - there have to be some fixed rules.

FWIW - I will very likely participate next go round. Did not have the time needed here at the holidays.
