She looks like an ostrich. Neat looking large bird!

This male Costa visits quite regularly & we're very pleased to see that he's finally brought home a girl!

I love hummers. I just counted up how many species I have seen in the wild. 152. But it is many years since I have seen one.

Wait, was Glen saying he'd seen 152 species of hummers or birds total? Either is pretty awesome.

I'm gardening on a teeny patio here in the Inland Empire & for the 2+ years we've been here, I've had one visiting Costa. He's pretty so I assume he's male. I added a second feeder last month & I've seen two hummingbirds for the first time so we believe he's brought home a girl! I don't believe I'll get to see the nest but maybe babies...

@Gleni, that Cassowary is an awesome looking BIG bird!! I can't imagine standing in front of one to take it's picture! I read that they are very shy birds but if provoked can cause major injury or death to dogs and humans!! They look like they would pretty strong birds and I imagine they can really inflict some pain with these feet!: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

@JulieB - great shots of those pretty hummers and how neat that there's a male and female visiting your garden! I have photo's of three different types of hummers that I've taken when we were visiting San Diego the past few years but I'm not sure which ones they are. We only see the Ruby-throated Hummingbird here in my area.

I don't know how all of you take such great pictures of so many birds! I got a new camera for Christmas, but either I take too long to snap the picture and the bird runs off, or I move and the pic is not in focus. Oh well, it will give me something to work at in the new year! Here are a couple that are halfway decent -

Our resident Anhinga. He's out there every day, either swimming and catching dinner, or drying his wings:

Ibis, I think your photo's are really great! Love that Anhinga perched in the tree with it's wings spread and the vivid Cardinal ... and I especially love the shot of the White Ibis as it's eating whatever that is in it's bill. Thumbs up

No, that is the number of species of hummingbirds I have seen. My world list is just under 4000 bird species. But I am just a baby here. A friend of mine with whom I have done most of my travelling just passed 7000 species. But you have to have lots of money to achieve such numbers.

That is amazing, Glen! It reminds me of a movie I saw not too long ago about birding called "The Big Year", based on a real event. Fun movie but would have been better if they showed more actual bird footage. Smiling

Blinking 4000 species! That is QUITE an achievement! And 153 of them hummers ---- WOW!

Ibis, great shots! Don't worry, we all know about taking 100 shots to only have a couple that are good. nodding

Glen- that is quite an acheivement!

Don't you just love digital cameras, you can take thousands of photos and it doesn't cost you a dime. I photographed for years using 35 mm film and it got expensive.
