Lisa, no offense taken. I really like plants with unusual names, such as Lion's Foot (Prenanthes alba) and False Mermaid (Floerkea proserpinacoides). With that last one both the common and Latin names are winners. You are right though, I really do need to get out more.

David, I 'get ' you. I first noticed that plant last summer near here. With Muddy's help, I identified mine. I was quite stoked to learn to identify something fairly widespread, yet till then totally unnoticed and unheard of by me.
In the same park, I also found and learned about cow-wheat, Melampyrum. Thumbs up

And another very humble (read = somewhat trashy) nearby park, Medeola virginiana Thumbs up

Being able to find 'special' plants makes these places and these little suburban walks more fun.

My new favorite phrase "What the Floerkia!!"
Plant it and they will come.

Group hug thanks, Chantelle!

Greenthumb kindly offered to take it on Saturday and see if he can nurse it back to health--I'll keep it watered till then. Crossing Fingers!

So, like an idiot, I just HAD to move three large shrubs back in June when it seemed the regular rain would never stop.... In my defense, one of them had blown over and had to get some sort of attention. Sigh, I should have just pushed it back up and trimmed a lot of top growth. Well, nothing I was terribly invested in. I need to keep an eye on the shrub clearances. ISO berries for birds, partial shade.
Plant it and they will come.

Ugh, Sally. It is always a crapshoot...

Moved a few things around myself this morning. Crossing Fingers!

David, there are a few green leaves left on the spicebush so maybe there is hope. I just can't seem to get the right amount of sunlight and water for it. Moved it to yet another spot that I hope provides even more shade and more moisture...

Not dahlia, too small. Could be lily of the valley.

Definitely not Dahlia. I wish it were lily of the valley.
Keep seeing this darned plant wherever I dig.
Maybe that blue-eyed grass thing? Or creeping violet?
Could be a buy from Michigan Bulb online as new homeowners. Heck, when we moved in, "online" was not even a word.

Not a violet, and roots too coarse for blue-eyed grass. Does not look like the root system for any of the weeds that grow here, and we have a wide assortment. Pot some up and see what you get.

I found this seedling growing in the garden today but I don't know what it is. The leaves are slightly textured. Anyone have a clue?

Thanks for taking a shot but I'm sure it's not that. I was leaning toward something in the dogwood family but wasn't sure.
