Alba
Celadine
Dwarf Gem
Pudica
Vera Cruz Rose
Morange # 27

My first time planting seeds. On heat mats and plenty of lights in my basement.

I planted 6 Moragne#27 on Dec. 23. Here they are today. They have been under lights with heat mat.

Not a great pic, but they all germinated! Can't wait to hear your report as they grow.

11 days - wow. No true leaves yet. The next couple weeks are most critical. Good luck. They do look very healthy

Tell me something. You have named seeds. When that packet of seeds has a name, is that just the seed-pod parent?

You'll have to tell me how successful you are in over-wintering the Pudica. I lost the only one I had (a rooted cutting) over the winter (2013). I think, because of its narrow structure, it couldn't withstand a long dormancy. I could now grow one in the Solarium over the winter months.

Considering that I got the seeds planted with no problems - Yep. I would call that a rousing success.

Re names: Got me. I bought them from Brad's Buds and Blooms. I presume they are the pod parent. Regarding the other other parent .... Got me. My presumption is same type plant is used on both sides.

I could not find any info on his site WRT how pollinated. I purchased from him after reading favorable reviews here. Keep in my that I am Pre-Newby doing this. Heh I even reviewed his Blog - nothing there either.

WRT Over wintering - they do have to germinate first Assuming they do so - and I fully expect 100 % germination - ask me in about 18 months. At which time I fully expect them to be blooming - fer sure.

Shoot for the 15 month blooming record.......

Heck - I have to wait til after Mother's Day to reliably start dragging things out.

David - if only one name is listed, that would be the pod parent, and the other parent would be unknown. Except for the true species (P. alba and P. pudica) the P. rubra cultivars do not come true from seed anyway so it's a crapshoot!

For me at least, with my limited knowledge and experience in growing seedling, the "crap-shoot" is what's fun. You never know what you'll see till you see it. My first two blooming seedlings (and seed-pod bearing to boot) sure made the wait worthwhile. Being the proud "daddy", I love those two babies.

Oh, Hetty, the K's Honeysuckle Rose quit blooming about a month ago. That's the one with the gorgeous seed-pods. She is now forming a brand-new inflo. She's going to be back in bloom this winter. How great is that! I get a little carried away.

with Hetty, that is he pod parent. He other parent would be unknown because those seeds are not hand polinated and most of those seeds come from an area with multiple plumerias around, so you will never really know what you are going to get as far as the other parent.

Wow Ken, what have you been feeding your plumerias, that is amazing that you have seedpods and inflo at the same time.

@Dutchlady1 says it is not unusual to have seed-pods and flowers on the same plant. I am just happy that I got to see (my own) seed-pods once in my life.

@DavidLMO how did you plant your seeds? Individual cells? What planting medium did you use?

I start most things (and these as well) in 72 cell trays - 12 columns with 6 rows. When they have 2 sets of true leaves I move to individual pots - 2" - 3". I use the plastic covers and keep them on til I see true leaves. If I think it is too wet, I will remove the cover for several hours to a day or more. Once I see two sets of leaves, I also move the heat mat elsewhere. It is set at 84.

I used Seed Starting media - Light Warrior Brand - good stuff, but expensive. Manufactured by Foxfarm. I add a bit more perlite. Info here:

I use Foxfarm Potting media as well as Happy Frog quite a bit.

But I typically add other stuff - perlite, coir, sometimes sand. Some of my mixes I may also add Special Kitty litter, pine bark fines, NAPA oil dry, granite chicken grit.
