I have no will power to resist these daylilies that I really want. And Rice intros do really great here.

So, Thorough Bred Daylilies is having a clump sale now thru August 31st. I know this because I received an e-mail. You know I had to go look LOL!

A great reason (maybe excuse?) for me to get some Rice intros that I have wanted from their year of introduction but have never gotten around to buying. So I decided the time would never be better and bought them now.

First I got HOT TAMALES AND RED HOTS (2009) which is a sizzeling red, orange and black red mix mid season bloomer. I have loved it since I first saw the picture.
Then two lavender Dips that are late season bloomers. IN HIGH REGARD (2010) and FRUITY OVERTONES (2010). I just love the colors and you know I love those late bloomers.

I picked DREAM SEQUENCE (2009) as my bonus as they want you to list bonus choices. I really want it and hope I get it. It is a blue lavender bitone, just so pretty. Blooms mid late.

I guess I had better find some room to plant them Smiling

Those are beautiful, Rita -- love them all, especially HOT TAMALES AND RED HOTS, and they'll look terrific in your garden! The ones I really like are LOTUS POSITION, STARRING ATTRACTION and SWEET TALKING MAN, but I won't be buying any. And besides, they're for colder weather...

Thanks Betty. I do love the hot colored daylilies and HOT TAMALES AND RED HOTS is just an usual shade of all these hot colors. I just hope it looks as great in person as it does in the picture.

I do have some of the Rice intros already here like LOTUS POSITION, SOMETHING ANGELIC, WILLOW DEAN SMITH and HOW LOVELY YOU ARE.

Rita, I was going to post about their sale today! Sure wish I could get a few! I used to go there every year. You will love IN HIGH REGARD. The last year I was able to go down and visit was the first year Annette had pulled that one from the seedling field. I barely made it in the driveway till she grabbled me and showed it to me! She knows I like dips as well as tets. The color was so pretty. I cannot afford to be ordering daylilies....but my hand was reaching for my purse yesterday and I had to use my other hand to keep myself from ordering IN HIGH REGARD! I liked it that much! And also, PIAFFE (sp?) ... I remember seeing it too. I love the Polynesian type colors and that one was in that range, but a color unlike any other I have seen. One of those colors that just do not photograph.

Later today I will try to set down at the Mac and post some photos. I was having a rough spot last year and they sent me POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS and REINING out of the blue. What a surprise! It was so beautiful! They have been some of my best friends I have had in the daylily "world" -you just can't meet nicer people.

Juli, PIAFFE has my kind of daylily too, with that perfect description of the Polynesian type colors. I always love blooms that have that mango, persimmon, apricot flushed with subtle shades of yellow and pink. There was one I always wanted that I saw in FL, TAHITIAN WATERFALL, don't know why I never actively went looking for it.

A few from that sale list:

Sue, all those you posted are really pretty but I especially like It's My Party. Thumbs up Sooo pretty Lovey dubby

Betty, yes I like LOTUS POSITION but I don't LOVE it. That is because it has to be sprayed for thrips or it splotches something fierce. Even then it splotches if it rains. The flowers are not plentiful but rather few and far between here. But when it gets it right it is a stunner. Tall scapes. I would love it if it didn't have these problems.

Jan, hopefully it will not have the splotchyness problems in your garden that it does here Confused

Juli, I recieved the e-mail about the clump sale and was thinking I wonder what this is so you know I had to go look. I am glad I did because I am very pleased with what I ordered. Besides I think others might be interested in the sale also. I know I had ordered from Annette once before and I got nice double fans but getting the mini clumps sounded very appealing to me.

Those two dips, IN HIGH REGARD (2010) and FRUITY OVERTONES (2010) look to have the most amazing colors. I have wanted them since I first saw pictures when they were introduced.

I had a few minutes, and was able to find a photo of POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS that I took this summer. If you look closely, there are a couple huge white teeth on the upper petal. It was really fun to see how this flower had a effects here and there on different days. And, even though THEODORE KLEIN has been one of my very favorite purples for years, I really liked the color purple of PSE.

The Rices do have really nice intros, don't they? But at least for their newer intros, they are not that easy to find unless one buys direct. No problem for me but they tend to stay pricey on the website. Usually when the resellers get intros on the Lily Auction is when prices come down but I haven't seen that in this case.

I had asked them when my daylilies would ship and I just heard back that they will send them out just after Labor Day. I have my spots all ready Big Grin It really shouldn't be that much of a chore to plant them as it is only a few daylilies.

They came today Hurray! My plants came Hurray!

I got a large box from ThoroughBred Daylilies today. You know when people use the large priority mail boxes but don't fold the flaps down so that the box becomes twice as large? That's what I got with five daylilies. I had bought three and received two bonus daylilies. Especially exciting was that I did receive the daylilies I had requested as bonus plants so I am a really happy camper.

Annette put a note in there to me and said one of the dips I bought, IN HIGH REGARD was still in bloom as they dug it, how cool is that?

In case you forgot I got HOT TAMALES AND RED HOTS and then two lavender Dips that are late season bloomers. IN HIGH REGARD (2010) and FRUITY OVERTONES (2010). My bonus plants were DREAM SEQUENCE and CESTIAL MUSIC.

The clumps are just gorgeous and so big I easily have enough to divide even before planting if I wanted to. But I am not gonna do that. I am planting these gorgeous plants just as they are. Looking forward to great blooming next season!

Big Box before unpacking.

All five clumps. Two of them are nine fans and the rest are all seven fans each.

I just knew these were going to be really nice looking before they even came but they have exceded my expectations. And all except for CESTIAL MUSIC were intros of the Rices that I have been wanting to get since they were first introduced. They asked for recommendations for bonus plants and I said I REALLY, REALLY wanted DREAM SEQUENCE and if I was entitled to anything after that please send CESTIAL MUSIC too. I was thrilled to get both bonus plants and still would have been thrilled if I had only gotten DREAM SEQUENCE.

The prices were the same as they are on the plants all year but the difference is that you get lots and lots more fans than ever before. I just had to buy Big Grin

I didn't buy many daylilies this year. In fact nothing for spring at all. So I was really wanting some new ones for fall and ready to buy, After bloom season here I moved daylilies around and moved 25 daylilies outta here so I do have room for some new ones.
