@DavidLMO I am soaking both seed and media in 1 tbsp peroxide to 2 cups of RO water. Any additional misting or watering is with the same solution. The pictured batch is planted in Hoffman's soil. They have been on heat mat and T5 lights since planting. Lights about 12hours/day. Not on a timer, so that is not exact. Subsequent planting seeds have been in Jiffy pellets and Root Riot cubes(expensive!). Both soaked in H2O2 solution. I am keeping the seeds covered until they sprout to get that little mini greenhouse effect. Hope this makes sense. What media are you using? I am thinking it is a combination of things at work here and think that along with the peroxide, the constant heat is good also. Would be interested to compare differences here since we have essentially the same seed from Brad's.

You have HO T-5's - right? I am using Light Warrior seed starter media from Fox Far, Latest batches, I have been mixing in coir and some NAPA oil absorber.

Yes what you said makes complete sense. I am using about the same H2O2 solution - I make it up a gallon at a time.

Yes the constant heat helps. I am not doing that as I am rotating trays - I only have 3 heat mats. My lights are on a time in the basement at 12/12.

I don't use jiffy pellets and do not know what Root Riot cubes are. Are those Jiffy pellets the ones that have a media like a woman's hose holding the media in?

If so, I quit using them as they can strangle roots - I discovered that whn several plants died for no apparent reason. Dug them up to check roots and the roots never made it thru the hose material.

Yes, those are the lights I am using. I started mixing large batches of peroxide solution also. Saves time in the long run.

Root Riot cubes are made of a spongy composted material. Seeds planted in those have taken longer to sprout. That may just be the variety, assuming some naturally sprout faster than others. Supposedly the entire cube can be planted with no harm to the plant. We shall see. Until I have up potted some seedlings using these, I'm reserving judgement for now.

Yes Jiffy pellets do have that fabric. I have found it fairly easy to peel it away with no damage to the plant. I can see with as many seeds as you plant that removing the netting would be an extra job and time consuming.

Your planting media sounds interesting. Would like to see what the texture is like with all of those ingredients. Is that what you use for all of your seeds?

Any of the seed starter thingsys - I have been unhappy with and do not use any of them any longer. Nor do I use cells or pots made from compressed peat - ala Jiffy. In my use, they either stay too wet or wick out all the water and the media dries out.

For most of my seeds I use 2 parts Light Warrior Seed starter and 1 part coir and 1/2 - 1 part Perlite. That is what I use for most all seeds now. For some things I add in sand. I use no vermiculite except for bulb storage.

David, I am laughing at your description of Jiffy but yes it does look like a woman's hose. I do peel them off before transplanting my seedlings.

Alice I still call all my 3 year old plumerias grown from seeds as seedlings.

Big Grin

I first got turned off by those things when I had 2 plants die. Both were purchased and well cared for. They up and died. I dug them up and looked closely. After shaking away the soil, I found the ladies hose material nodding and roots that tried to get thru and never made it. And the plants perished.

And when I have tried them myself, I have been unsatisfied - realizing when I plant them that I should remove the hose material. Too much hassle and besides - germination was no better than using media. And media far less expensive.

@DutchLady1, I bet I can now grow the Pedica in my S room. I think I lost the only one I had because it had to endure 4-5 months of dormancy. I can now control the growth, semi-dormant, and dormant issues with that particular variety. I like the fact that it is sort of "evergreen" and can flower year 'round. I wish it was fragrant.

Thanks. I'm glad to to see it bloom but I wish it would have while it was outside. I think the artificial light has affected the blooms. It is supposed to be sariah's curly pink and it does look like it but the petals aren't curly. It is very fragrant.

Heath, it might change once the bloom matures or when weather warms up. I have some plumeria blooms on my Puu Kahea that are tiny when it's colder but when it warms up the bloom gets bigger and curls more.
