@ShadyGreenThumb, I have had limited success growing crotons, but I love the range of colors. After seeing @ardesia's crotons, I think I'll try one more time! Crotons do well for me in the summer, but crash when it turns cold and wet. They just look like rubbery sticks once it turns cold here. I buy all kinds of them each spring and hope that some will make it past August. A few hang on, but by spring, they are goners. I'm planning to make more mixed plant pots this spring. Maybe I'll have better success! Thumbs up

Sandi, So sorry about your DH's injury. I hope he heals quickly! Smiling

Alice, your Crotons are particularly pretty! Do you happen to know what cultivars they are?

@Bubbles Mine is doing well on the sunny side of the greenhouse this winter. It didn't like the shady side last winter. Maybe it will pull through better than it did last year? And if it does? Maybe I will have earned myself a new variety? I love the colors, too!

Yes, that would be cool...a new variety of croton!

Thank You! Thank You!

Danita, I am not sure of the cultivar on the larger plant, it has fiddle leaves and there are so many almost identical plants out there.
The narrow leafed one is 'Zanzibar'. I bought it as Fireworks but it seems they too are one and the same.

I usually leave them in a protected corner of my deck on a seedling heat mat in winter but the weather has been so strange. It was still 50 late last evening and it is in the low 30's this morning. I knew it was going to plummet so I brought the plants indoors yesterday.

Thanks, Alice!

Does anyone know how fast Croton 'Mamey' will grow? I bought a little pot off of the Lowe's clearance rack for a dollar. It is basically two rooted cuttings. Will these grow to a decent size this year if grown outside over summer?

I find crotons in general are slow and steady growers but I don't fuss to much or feed as often as I should. For a dollar you don't have much to lose. I would repot them in good soil and baby them while they are indoors. Perhaps by warmer weather you'll have some idea of their growth pattern.
