I scored! Stopped by Lewis Drug looking for markdowns and noticed green by the garbage cans. I scored 2 purple coneflower. 1 black eyed susan, a Switch Grass, 5 Spirea, 1 summersweet, and 2 either coneflower or rudbeckia. Most of the plants came with no pot and no tags and I haven't figured out how to tell the difference yet.. I threw groceries all over the car so I could put potless plants in the bags. Some are pretty sad looking but with a haircut and some tlc I think they'll do fine.

Anyone know how to tell the difference between rudbeckia and echinacea?

The large heart shaped plants on the left are echinacea - but I guess you knew that.

what a score! looks like you have a black-eyed susan on the right -- can you take a careful look at its leaves? They are a little different than echinacea, although i can't bring to mind the details (I think maybe echinaces leaves have smoother margins?)

Oh wow! What a bargain. I would have done that too, but I'd think twice about who's going to do all the digging to get them planted and then worry about keeping the deer away. Whistling

Oh, and nice catch, David. (thumbs up)

My wallet was running on empty but I spotted something irresistible at Lowe's today. Hurray! There were 27 dwarf Mondo grass at fifty cents each marked down from $1.98 because they had a bit of sun scald. I plan to use these between patio blocks under the new clothesline area.

I wish I had a Lowes closer to me but it is probably a good thing that I don't. I think the closest one is around 2 1/2 hours away. I have to drive one hour to get to a Menards or a Home Depot. So I rarely get a chance to pick up discounted plants.

Jeanne, do you have to go to Dubuque?

@AnnaZ Yes, Dubuque is about 2 hours from me and so is Waterloo, IA so I would have to go to either one of those cities to go to a Lowes. Sometimes it is hard to get my DH to stop for MORE flowers when we are in those places.

I am an hour east of Dubuque. That big Ace store just off of NW Arterial has a WONDERFUL plant selection.
