Woh! Yes. This info is making me rethink what I will do with this years seeds. I will go off and reread the threads about refrigeration and try it. Thanks for the info on the SDB seed pods as well. It's as good as a picture because my main concern was that if they were very small, I might miss them but sounds like not!

Hi Elsa,
The buds on an IB look the same as a TB and I expect it would be the same for SDBs and MDBs. I have only ever created one IB seed pod and I think it was a bit smaller than the TB pods.
Somehow I missed this post earlier. Thanks so much Robin for this info

Just got a good tip on breaking dormancy in certain seeds (including bearded iris) from a fellow crazy plantswoman. It is from the 'Grow From Seed' thread at the
Scottish Rock Garden Club Forum:
I might have to try that with a few seeds anyway. Sounds like they don't need to go through the stratification process then. That could speed things up nicely.
Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason.

Thanks for that link, Lilli. Fascinating!
I have some foil-wrapped packets of iris seed in the fridge. Maybe I'll try that tea method with a few.
If it works, it could save a lot of time!
For a very small backyard hybridizer, what's a fun number of seedlings to try for? For just the first year's set. What would you shoot for if you had only 800 Sq ft to work with.
I want to try maybe for 100-150 the first year's set myself. Is that too many for a rookie? And this is taken account not all will bloom or live to see spring 2018.
