Karen offers good advice here. What do you have to lose besides a few seeds?

I can't seem to part with every single sprout either.. but do let them duke it out now and then.. if they are real weak I will just put them in a six pack and hope for the best

If you get them early enough, sometimes you can soak off some of the medium and tease them apart. I'm betting this depends on how the root systems have proliferated, too.

Getting ready to WS here soon. We are having a very mild winter so far and even some of the garden plants and shrubs are sprouting. My roses haven't even died back and most of them have new growth! Terribly unseasonal, to say the least. Hoping for at least some semblance of winter to arrive.

I have to say that having used this method (WS) in the past and had excellent results, I will never go back to indoor seed sprouting! Damping off killed the plants that did germinate and grew leggy, despite my best efforts to rotate light exposure, and I ended up with little pots of dead, brown stems hanging over the sides. Now with WSing, I get gorgeous, healthy plants. It's the only way I've ever been successful with poppies. Thumbs up

Until I started WSing I couldn't grow poppies from seed. When my first ones germinated in the jugs, I realized I'd been weeding them out with the thistles. Rolling on the floor laughing

I did a number of different Columbine last year using winter sowing. Had great success with them.
Here are a few of them. Sorry I don't know the names, I forgot to tag them when I put them out in the beds. *Blush*

I just looked up the C. 'Double Pleat Blackberry'. It sure is a beautiful columbine Allison.

Or perhaps a Clementine? I planted a couple red Clementines (plants) last summer that haven't bloomed yet, and the pics look a lot like those.

How tall are those, Lynn? I'm kinda afraid such delicate blooms will get lost in the jungle if they don't have bright colors.

I just love the foliage, too.

Hi Sheryl. I'm taking a guess at the height of them, as I didn't measure them this last year. Maybe about 24", could be a more. I will be sure to measure them this year.
I looked Clementine up. It could be a Clementine. Sure wish I'd kept the name tag with them. *Blush*
