Good for you, Chelle! I've still only done 4 jugs, all perennials. After this weird wet year, I have no idea what might or might not have survived in my yard. Hoping for the best but... no idea? I do expect at least some losses, though.

I really should WSow a few more jugs, just in case. And I'll do a few jugs of annuals, too, closer to spring.

It looks like everything I've wintersown so far has sprouts, except for the Snow White candytuft. Do they usually take this long? It's been 4 weeks.

I haven't done candytuft either. But I think it's one that's considered "easy" by most who have wintersown it, meaning it sprouts and grows well.

Remember, it's still early! I almost never have wintersown sprouts of any kind until March. This is just such a warm, weird weather year that wintersown things are sprouting early. From reports I've seen, most seem to be zone 7 and warmer.

Well, other than getting my daylily seeds plopped into the veggie drawer of the fridge with some cotton moistened with hydrogen peroxide, I haven't yet started my WSing. Gotta get that done soon, though, 'cause our "winter" this year has not seen much cold weather. Not complaining, but this is one year I should have started much earlier.

Chelle, I'm still in the "Wow" stage myself! I love this method and several friends who've tried it are now firm believers.

Is it too late to start wintersowing? How much freezing and thawing do the perennial seeds need? Is 6 weeks enough? I'm still putting seeds out. I have alot left to do and I'm hoping to haven't waited too long.

Whew! I got a late start this year. Last year was only my second time. I had alot going on this year so I decided to cross my fingers and go for it. I will be putting seeds out everynight until I either run out of seeds or containers. LoL

Hey, Malvenena! I'm glad you joined us. I hadn't run into you yet.

Welcome! I think you'll like it here!

Anita, I think you still have time, too. But if any of your perennial seeds need cold strat, better get them out there soon.

I'm still working through my pile of perennial seeds. I'm much slower than I was 10 years ago!

Anita, you still have longer than I do, since you're further north. I have to get my seeds that need a cold start done here in the next 2-3 weeks.

I did have 2 tomato seeds pop up today!

Zone envy Drooling

Our winter has been so mild, but it's going to get frigid this weekend, with lows in the high teens. I've only done 4 jugs of perennials so far, and I checked today, no sprouts yet. I'm thankful for that.

Welcome, Melvalena!!! Glad you have found us here....

This really has been an odd winter, hasn't it Karen? We've had temps in the 60s already, and now back to the more seasonable 20s this weekend. Might be a good time for me to get a few jugs out.

Melvalena is my friend from GWeb, and a fellow wintersower. She's a nice lady and I'm glad she joined us.

And yes, Linda, the weather this weekend might be the coldest of the whole winter. So probably a good time to get out anything that might need cold strat. It would give a few freezing days first followed by a few cool weeks. Nights are likely to remain cool, even if not COLD.

Hi everyone and thanks for the welcome.

I just posted this info on Texas Garden Web so I suppose I should share it here too.

This afternoon I potted up one milk jug of swiss chard seedlings:

Thumb of 2012-02-10/Melvalena/977821

That is 28 potted up plus there is one more jug to get potted up. These were the first things to sprout.

My goal was to use up all my seeds (and I'm not doing a very good job of it). The bulk of them are probably 10 years old!

Yes, I'm a seed hoarder. Whistling

Noticed 2 tomato seedlings popped up today and I managed to plant out 20 more containers too. Total so far is 124.

Zone envy for sure. But I don't want sprouts yet as it's way too early here, too much cold yet to come.

In my next life I want to garden in a warm zone.

I'm going to cave and bring in some of the most tender things, tomatoes and lobelia over night tonight and tomorrow night. Everything else should be just fine.

Do you bring them into your house? I generally put my tender stuff in my garage for those frosty nights. How cold is it supposed to get there?
