That is a beauty for sure Dirt. Nothing says you can't try it. I think there are some people that bring them indoors for the winter. You would have to keep it on the cool side though.

The red flowers are amazing. Go for it if you can provide a lot of light in the winter.

With the powder-dusted Dudleyas you have to be extra-vigilant about mealy bugs in the core because they are sort of camouflaged on the white background and can wreak enough havoc that they will actually core the plant before you have noticed. (Sometimes that works to your advantage when the plant sprouts a bunch of new heads in order to keep on growing. About even odds in my experience.)

Here is one that grows well here and there are others that will also if given bright shade and cover from hard frost like under an evergreen tree. These are hardy to 12 degrees F. You can see it's on bark and some of the dry evergreen leaves are visible but the underlying soil is alluvial in nature. It's a grade of Columbia loam that is very well draining which improves their chances for success. Dudleya pulverulenta survives to 18 and does well here in Zone 9b.

Well, I really don't want another potted plant to bring inside and the boulder cannot be moved--
Technically I am zone 5b, but more like 6...
The place I ordered it from had it listed for zone 5, but, it occurs to me that could be very wrong at this point

Thank you Marilyn. You should give one a try and just bring it indoors for winter. I'll see if I can remember to get a photo of the one that was out in the raised beds all winter. It looks different than the one in the container, because it was kept on the dry side. Just a sip of water maybe 3 time in the last three months.

Nice photo Leslieray. Does your get the colorful tips if given enough sun?

Lynn,

All my plants grow outside 365 days of the year (dead or alive). No coming in for the winter.

Most of mine live outside year round. I have 3 or 4 plants that come indoors for winter. Each year it is fewer.

I figure that I'll plant some semps too so that when the dudleya dies it won't be quite so empty--there were some weeds growing in there, but I cleaned them out.
