When I re-enabled ads, "auto-jump to the first unread post" started jumping to the wrong place. For example, it would jump 1/3rd of the way down a long thread that I had read all but 2 posts of.

Hi Dave

I turned ads back off, and "auto-jump to the first unread post" went right back to working correctly.

HOWEVER, I never actually saw any ads, just a warning from my browser that something was not configured to Google's satisfaction.
(I've seen that warning on other websites and it's also possible that IT at work has their finger in the pie.)

Might some of that have interfered unexpectedly with the operation of "auto-jump"?

This has very low priority for me. I wouldn't urge you to spend any time on it unless you're curious.

I was mainly curious about how the screen layout would look with ads on, in an extra-wide monitor that I don't usually use to view ATP.
I've turned ads back off and everything is working fine as usual on your websites.

If you are curious, I'd be happy to try different things to try to narrow down the quirk, such as get a screenshot of the Google warning.
I'm not sure the warning was always displayed when I had ads enabled.

P.S. That "auto-jump to first unread post" feature may seem trivial to you, but it is GREATLY appreciated. Sometimes small things are very very nice.

I've actually experienced this as well and I'm having a difficult time figuring out what's causing it. I'll continue looking into this.

It started happening to me last week and I have never turned off the ads. I suspect it's coming from the outside of ATP after an auto upgrade a couple of weeks ago. The computer was really jumpy after the upgrade.

I've had this happen as well but I haven't tinkered with changing my ad preferences. It doesn't happen all the time with me -- it comes & goes. Odd.

I usually have ads turned off, and never saw any glitch with "jump to first unread post" until I turned ads back on.

Thanks for making clear I was not imagining it!

It's certainly low priority for me.

Low priority for me too. I can deal with it until you get around to fixing it Dave.

I don't have ads enabled here, but I've had a similar thing happen many times on Cubits after I clicked on the "first unread" link. The pattern of behavior on a thread that I'd mostly read already was that after clicking the "first unread" link, it would initially jump to the correct "unread" spot on the page for a second and then suddenly jump back up the page to older posts that I had already read. (I have a slower dsl connection, so someone with a faster connection might not have time to see all the steps of the odd behavior.) Shrug!

Yes that's exactly what it was doing for me, too, Danita. And it doesn't happen everytime. I'm continuing to try to figure it out.

It doesn't happen every time for me, either, but it has been happening for months at Cubits. Shrug!
Best of luck tracking down the cause! Smiling

I don't know if this is connected or not Dave but I'll put it out here anyway. Sometimes when I click to read a thread I get taken to the thread but there is nothing but a blank blue screen UNTIL I scroll down & suddenly all the posts appear. It's so strange.

I might have found the ad that was causing the problem. I blocked the ad in particular and within an hour it should stop showing. We'll see if that resolves the problem.

I may have tested it too soon.

I turned ads on, and sometimes (usually) it auto-jumps to the wrong place.

I haven't seen the problem again lately.
